I once met a couple of lasses from Theydon Bois in a pub (in Berko, as it happens). I can assure all that T Bois & C Bois are very different places. What the late Sir Ian Dury referred to as 'a pair of squeaky chickies'. May well have been called Joyce & Vicky. It was about 1976.
My local for my formative years. The scene of the odd backrow fumble, occasionally with a second party involved.
Mrs Keighley swears that the "Bois" in Theydon Bois should be pronounced a la francaise, but I think it's pronounced "Boys". This is one of several conjugal disagreements that keeps our marriage fresh.
To be fair, Berko has a long history of differing spellings and pronunciation of its name; even the road in Chesham is still spelled 'Berkhampstead Road'. Personally pronounce it with an emphasis on the second syllable, myself.
We often discuss individuals having multiple personas on the forum. But could a single character be the work of a collective? For instance, one contributor has an in depth knowledge of tattooing, another is a habitue of the Edinburgh theatrical scene, a third prowls nightly on the shores of the Italian lakes. And we should know! Arguably the most famous literary collective of recent times is Roberto Bui, Giovanni Cattabriga, Federico Guglielmi and Luca Di Meo, aka The Luther Blissett Project.
There used to be a player named Julie Moys. I used to sing that song to her, slightly adjusted obviously! I've been called worse!
I was thinking of dismissing the carrots due to their object failure last week. Are you suggesting that I continue? I suppose I could have a carrot with me in its spare time,so to speak and not in an official, lucky charm, capacity? Guidance required,be advised I don't much care for parsnips and swedes are very hard to eat or do anything with raw!
Almost a year ago, we went to Hull for what looked like our easiest remaining fixture of the season. Of course, in true Watford style we stank the place out and were comfortably beaten despite having a man advantage. As the end of this season gradually morphs in to a replica of the previous one, I predict another dull, uninspiring Watford performance as we succumb to another defeat on our travels by probably a goal or two. Our away goals record since the halcyon early months of the season reads: December - 1 goal; January - 1 goal; February - 0 goals, March - 0 goals; April............... Top marks to all you Hornets making the journey
Your old twig worked well, as did your old fridge/freezer. I wouldn't recommend bringing a lucky banana or grape to the remaining fixtures. What lucky charms do you take to tennis? Or do you rely on talent?
Stephen worked well it's true but since we washed him up or down the Cam I haven't replaced him, twig for twig. About a year ago I decided I didn't much care for bananas and one grape seems slightly flimsy in the snack department. I don't have any lucky charms, although I always take my 1989 Wimbledon towel ( not trowel ut!). I do however use the same ball if I win a point on serve and a different one if I lose. I also and go through phases of walking on the lines or not walking on the lines, depending on my mood. I always let the opposition win the spin. Tennis is much easier in one aspect: it's all down to you,you can't blame your team mates or the fans!
I do and you're quite correct and I take your point. However doubles is much more a relationship I believe than 11 possibly 14 people trying to gel. In any case as the most experienced player,in terms of level played,it would be weak of me to say 'it's my partner's fault'. Usually the players get on,although Hewitt and Mc Millan never spoke but then Bob Hewitt didn't speak to anyone!
It is frustrating that all 3 seasons have gone the same way. Different managers, a lot of personnel changes and yet similar outcomes. I wonder if it is that the goal each season is to stay up and so players are "on the beach", whether performance bonuses are not strong enough to carry through til the end of the season. Or maybe it's that because of the constant churn of players, there's no real passion and loyalty about playing and performing for the fans when the season is effectively done. You don't really get the feeling of passion from many of the players that other teams players seem to show and there are clearly some upset players among the squad that can't be helping morale. I like the fact they are trying to build a British core of players as I think this may help to bring passion and a bit of pride back both on the field and off, especially when the season starts to drop off.
Let's put that to the test on Saturday, when you step onto the court bearing all the hopes and dreams of members of the Forum. We shall need the score and a full match report, plus a mock-humble quote on how pleased you were to win or a rant complaining that you lost because of the state of the court, the low quality of the sandwiches or your opponents being cheating gits.
It's interesting to see the local rag up there puffing this game up to cup final proportions. Everyone on the record saying what a mahusive game it is, how their fans have to put in their best efforts...blah blah. Really hope we burst their balloon.
Probably their best chance of a win which why there is the hype. Got Arsenal/Everton/Man City after this weekend. Nothing to do with because its us as such.
Right now it's easy to beat Watford because the defence is so crap. All teams know it and see us as an easy three points. The sad part is, it's probably correct.
Of course another issue on the road is we haven't scored goals albeit hardly had the easiest run of away games. I am not sure its "easy to beat us" generally though for a team like Huddersfield - to score yes!
I’m of the mind now that we won’t defend any better this season. It’s beyond that capability of the defenders available. The difference between now and the start of the season is we had Doucoure and Richarlison flying with Cleverley buzzing about the pitch. For me it’s for the rest of the team to up their standards and attack teams more convincingly now, and make the issue at the back a side-story rather than the main event. Drop Deeney, put Gray in. Put Richarlison back in, and drop Hughes back into CM in place of Capoue and let him dictate the game. Oh and Britos for Mariappa. I’d bring back Gomes too.
I wonder if the result of the lunchtime match will impact on their mindset going into the game. A win for Southampton would increase the pressure I'd have thought, while if, as expected, Saints get ****ed, their tales might be up. Should be interesting and I'm looking forward to it. 0-2 away win
I ummed and aaaahed about going to this one, but have decided to stay home and then go out out into Watford early doors instead. Haven't seen us win away since Saints way back in Sept., so think I must be a Jonah. If we win its down to me. Hudds were the best away fans at the Vic all season, and their forum chat has been pretty good for Sats game, although on or two have been bent out of shape about our tongue-in-cheek preview 2-2 Hogg (2) Cholevas and Cathcart..showing the strikers how it's done (OK, so I've been drinking!)
