Never rely on Arsenal - probably be our best chance of an away win for the rest of the season!

Man City beaten in a cracking game at Anfield by the looks of it.

Typically Liverpool look great going forward but shaky at the back.

Blimey - for 85 minutes the officials had it easy at Anfield then all hell broke loss!

Brave assistant at the end to give that penalty- Mind you he missed the offside for Spurs' first.

Both Kane and Lallema (spelling) made the most of both "fouls"

Shame as there were 2 excellent goals which won't get the headlines!

And a yellow card for Alli for diving (yet again) into the bargain.

Can someone explain to me why it was relevant if Lovren touched the ball for the 1st penalty? Spurs bloke plays it forward, Kane is offside at that point. Obviously he is interfering with play because Lovren wouldn't have needed to try and intercept it if not. Lovren then bodges it up by just getting a tiny deflection and the ball trajectory is not really changed from original pass when Kane is offside? Why is Lovren touching it relevant? Kane is offside surely as originally identified by Lino?

If a defender deliberately touches the ball as it is going forward then the receiving attacker is not offside. The Liverpool defender made a movement with his leg towards the ball so it is deliberate and therefore Kane is not offside.

From what I saw on MotD and the lipreading/micophone stuff they did, the Ref didn't see the defenders touch therefore he must give Kane offside as the linesman told him as such. The lino seemed to know the rule, the ref didn't, (there's a ****ing surprise).

But he’s already offside when the original pass was made. Lovren intervention has yet to happen.

To give a scenario: I am standing on the edge of the area and am the only outfield player in the half. My full back whacks the ball clear and their attacker touches the ball while deliberately trying to block the clearance am I onside?

  7. Diamond

    Diamond First Team

Onside. If the ball hits him accidentally on the way to you then you're offside. However, he made an attempt to touch the ball, successfully, so what would have been an obvious offside is reset the moment he touches it.

Having read the quotes rule I agree with you. Seems nuts to me though.

It’s been nearly a week and still no one knows precisely where the **** Riyad Mahrez is. This has to go down as one of the greatest tantrums ever in English football. Almost Tevezian in its scale and petulance.

Out of interest, how would you lot feel if say Doucoure* was refused a move and then effectively went on strike and awarded himself an indefinite amount of time off work? I personally am on the verge of not wanting Mahrez anywhere near the club now. He’s the best to ever wear the shirt but he’s virtually destroyed his reputation amongst the fans.

Also, **** Manchester City and their filthy, blood stained money.... but that’s another matter I guess.

*there’s probably a better example/comparison to Mahrez in your history. John Barnes or Jason Norville or summink, I ain’t a Watford fan.

Feel for you Filbert. I know Man Utd spend lots of money, as do some other major European clubs, but Man City's methods seem ludicrous.

One of their wingers picked up a month injury, and they look to bring in a 60mil player to stand in whilst he's out/ rotate with other £50/60m players. So they unsettle him, ask him to push for a move, and then try and low ball you on the last day of the transfer window, when Leicester have no time to replace him. How is that fair?

At least the other big spenders seem to have long term targets, and act fairly in their dealings.

I don't know how I feel about this. Personally I feel the City offer was very fair and that you should have taken it - now you've got a ridiculously unhappy player who probably won't play again for the rest of the season and end up moving in the summer for a fraction of the price that you were previously offered. But at the same time, he's being a bit of a **** about it, somewhat understandably.

I would t begrudge him a move there at all. I totally got why Kante left to play for Chelsea, he linked up with a great manager and immediately added to his medal collection. The difference here though is that Mahrez gladly snaffled up a new 5 year £100,000 a week deal following the title win and didn’t think to ask the club or his agent to organise a release clause. Someone in his camp has been saying all along that he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Ranieri that he could go at the end of last season, failing to realise that A) Ranieri had nothing to do with the buying and selling of players and B) Managers get sacked all of the time. It’s a bit like when Chris Feather gave Alan Partridgee a 2nd series and immediately died from a heart attack.

Also, a host of clubs such as Barca, Roma and Monaco have flirted with Mahrez and vice versa, most the summer before last which led to him playing dreadfully for the following 6 months. Manchester City came in, seemingly on a whim (although they’ve said otherwise) thinking they can pinch him on the final day of the January window.... and god knows we’ve had our fingers burnt doing last minute deals in windows!

None of it sits right with me, I don’t think anyone has come out of it with any credit really, although I am quite pleased the owners took a stance and weren’t swayed by pressure from all sides to sell him.

And as a thank you for reading my rambling, venting ********, may I offer my congratulations on you ****ing Chelsea last night. ******* brilliant stuff!

Essentially they have already got him should they want him though. Sure he had a gentleman's agreement with Ranieri that didn't get followed up on due to Ranieri leaving - and as you said led him to play badly for 6 months (making the City offer even more fairer!) but Leicester are silly for thinking he wouldn't be upset and not want to play for refusing a move a second time around. Now you don't get him playing for you or the money, so it's a lose/lose for Leicester rather than a lose/win. Whilst City know they can probably get him for 30-40m in the summer if they so wish now. Don't get me wrong, it's a **** move by City but they're well within their rights to do so but it was obvious that turning down the bid wouldn't sit well with Mahrez.

Just watching match of the day. They're raving about Aguerro and he is obviously class, but Schmeical basically gifted him 4 goals, an abysmal goal keeping display.

So how many points do we reckon 7th place is going to need this season then?

I think it'll be north of 50pts, which would leave us needing 6 wins from 10 games. Realistically we're going to have to win all our home games, pick up points away and out perform Leicester. It's a tough ask.

With Man City being booted from the cup it might all turn out to be pointless anyway. 7th is only going to be a Europa League qualifer spot if one of the top 6 wins the FA cup. And only 2 are guaranteed to be in the next round so far, with Spurs likely to join them.

Man City already won the League Cup, so that Europa League slot will be used by 7th. Also, an almighty if, but if Arsenal win this season's Europa League and finish below 4th then there would be 5 English teams in the CL next year, like there were this season. If that panned out then 8th would get a Europa League slot too.

I thought we have 3 EL spots and they're assigned to 5th in the Prem, FA Cup winner and League Cup winner?

EDIT: Yeah. Found an article explaining it from last season. Plus UEFA capped our European qualifiers at a total of 7 so it'd never run to 8th place. If Arsenal win the EL we swap a place in that competition next season for the CL instead.

Just watching the Spurs game. I find it very weird and irritating the pundits and commentators constantly refer to Son as being underrated. Is he really? Isn’t he just a really good player? It’s like because he’s Asian they’re surprised every time he scores.
