...and Pereyra's goal. Yes agree, over time, but last night he did well, regardless of how Gray has done.
I feel Deeney's game changed massively under Flores. He was turned into an attacking midfielder rather than a striker. He no longer has any desire to shoot, even when nobody is around him. This has taken all the likely goals out of his game, as he's never been an instinctive tap in striker
26 consecutive Premier League appearances without a goal that's not a penalty, last goal from open play was 4th April last year. Wouldn't be that surprised to see him go a full 12 months without one... he's got five games to go.
The worry is that this isn't simply a loss of form. Its been a 3 year process of turning himself into a totally ineffectual striker. You think back to his Championship days, and although he wasn't a natural in front of goal, he also wasn't afraid to take risks and shoot from distance. He's admitted he's been seeing a sports psychiatrist, and you wonder whether he actually has some deep rooted issue. I know it seems extreme, but to litterally avoid shooting at all costs you have to wonder whether he's got some kind of mental block
I often think of them at the same time! Cambridge graduate, tactically adept, superb leader, thoughtful, erudite and probably even at the age of 76,more likely to score from open play than Troy!
Nah, he's just lost the little bit of sharpness which he had before, it just comes with age. The only reason he needs to see a psychologist is to help him come to terms with the fact that he's just not good enough anymore, and in particular he will never get to be as good as he thinks he is, was, or ever can be in his head/ego.
Just a quick message, (a boast more than anything), I was lucky enough to have met Troy Deeney today at an event he had very kindly agreed to take part in. He signed everything he was asked to, took part in every photo, shook every hand, answered every question. A genuine privilege to have met him, a real gentleman.
What I really like about Troy is the fact that he drives a Lambo and always scores. And, of course, when Leicester tried to take him away, he said 'f*ck off, I wanna stay'. In my eyes that makes him a legend for ever more
Where’s lowerrous? Isn’t it time for him to claim Deeney didn’t shake enough hands and Okaka was the real hero of the day despite not being there? Because Deeney’s ****.
