Hasn't been confirmed as far as I can see. Has Cleverley's injury caused a rethink? Edit: Sky Sports say we're releasing him from his contract so he can sign as a free agent for Forest tomorrow
If true it is well deserved, he has served WFC well and with great distinction, thank you and goodbye Ben
His influence in the second half of the 2014/15 season was huge in our promotion, then he was a regular in our first year in the prem and one of Quique’s most trusted players. He’s done a lot for Watford FC and I wish him well for the future.
Really weird decision. How can you go from good enough to start to not even good enough to be around the Squad? Just makes him starting so much this last month even more laughable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you Ben for your excellent service to WFC. U have created many memorable perforances, my favourite being your dominant performance against Liverpool in the 3 1 win. I said that day you would be a wfc captain in the future a role u fulfilled admirably. All the best Ben
First time I saw Ben I was impressed just did the simple things well and always came across in a professional way. Good luck.
Who is the replacement then? Agree find it a very strange decision considering where we are, why not agree this at the end of the season?
Because we need the squad place now, so he’d have been left out of the squad anyway, this way he can join another club rather than rot for 6 months. We already had to leave Wague out, and who would Watson have displaced in the 25 man squad if we were to have included him? Odd that forest still haven’t officially signed him though? If they don’t skmebody in the championship will though.
Expected to sign for Forest after their game vs Fulham according to Nottm Post. Might be in the team again with Gueds. A nice reminder what we had in the 2014-15 season, best of luck Ben and thanks!
I am aware of that, but I would have thought that the rules would still apply. Can't see the logic in being able to sign a new player that is a free agent, but not being able to sign a player from another club, doesn't make any sense at all to me.
Think about it logically, the transfer window was brought in to stop teams buying success/survival towards the end of the season, or unsettling other clubs players etc. Most players of any value will be tied into contracts and will not be allowed to become free agents as it is in neither the club or the players interests for that to happen. By definition there are not that many good free agents around as they are players who are essentially not wanted, so it’s very different to not being able to sign a player that is contracted to a club. We didn’t want to give Watson a new deal or name him in the squad, so the kindest thing to do was to terminate his contract so he wasn’t tied to us and could sign for anybody now.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to explain that to me. The only one on this forum that did not realise. Oh dear, I'll get my coat.
Still somewhat of a gamble, by giving the squad place to a player not fancied by fans of a club that currently sits in the relegation zone of the Championship..
It's not like there's any doubt Watson isn't up to PL level anymore. He's been in the team consistently since before Christmas. Even if Ndong is a gamble that doesn't make Watson any better
I guess the irony in all of this is that when we Signed Watson the Wigan fans didn't fancy him as they sat towards the bottom of the League!
Good player. I'll never forget his debut game coming on as a sub when 2 down and playing up front scoring 4 goals in an 6-2 win away at leeds.
Ndong has the legs for the Premier League and is very good at ball winning and breaking up play. Ok, he may not be a fantastic passer of the ball but I don't think we have loaned him in for that reason. He is also only 23 and learning still. I'm hoping that playing in a team like ours with better quality than a totally woeful Sunderland team will bring out better and more complete performances from him. Still a gamble though like any signing but at least he's had a little experience of a relegation battle!
