I’m not glad he is gone. I think the board have been childish in not supporting him this transfer window when his squad has been decimated not helped by our shambolic medical department.

Odd. Maybe it only appears on some operating systems.

(It’s on the left side at the bottom, next to where it shows your name and when you posted. Mine shows Edit/Delete/Report).

First of all every new appointment any club makes is bound to be a risk. Whatever their previous record. There may be some unforeseen issues that cannot be predicted beforehand. Dyche has done wonders with what would be regarded as Championship players at the back. Heaton was seen as a scrub, Mee, Tarkowski and others like Lowton. That Wally didn't get the defence organized could be well down to his inability to communicate effectively.

As HB1 says there were two choices. Carry on regardless with an almost certain prospect of relegation or change riders and at the very least get the new manager bounce which should be enough to keep us up given the mediocrity of the bottom half of the division. And Gracia isn't some clueless idiot,he is highly regarded and I hope he will work his Malaga magic.

Personally I would have gone for Berizzo (but he is still recovering from cancer) or Jokanovic (Gino doesn't revisit managers who he falls out with).

Probably because we’re not a Spanish club. We’re an English club sliding towards relegation, and maybe needed somebody to come in with more experience of our league, short-term at least. What relevance is a 1-0 win over Barcelona a few seasons ago? I’ve not written the guy off. He has qualities. I’m just questioning whether now is the right time for a high-risk gamble?

Happy Silva has gone, dont know much about the new bloke. He took Malaga to 9th so that will do us fine. He needs to sort the defence out and restore confidence. Hope he has a little black book of decent left backs. Full backs are our biggest weakness. at the moment a few boring 0-0s and the odd 1-0 win would be lovely. Still need 4 wins to be safe and this guy only has to do that. Then we go into a summer with a manager we know will be here.
Over to you Javi, good luck

He's very highly rated here in Spain. He was on Seville's radar and Malaga fans would welcome him back with open arms.

Some coaches do not travel well, and we will have to see how he'll do, but there's not enough for me to feel disappointed. On the contrary, I'm quietly excited by this appointment.

I understand your concerns, but then it comes down to who is available, has had a successful stint in the Premier League, and is a realistic target for us. The Pozzos don’t do multi-million pound compensation packages for managers, and now is not the time for protracted negotiations with another club, so that narrows it down further to someone out of work. I’m racking my brains but can’t think of anyone who ticks all those boxes - maybe someone with a bit more knowledge can enlighten us?

Javi - like "gravy", but with a J.
Gracia - like "gracias" but without the s.

    Hope that helps.

If the Board believed he was no longer interested then why would they commit more money to him? We were the 7th highest spenders in the Premiership last summer so it is not as if we were using Championship players. It could be true that with a normal injury list we might have fared slightly better - but everything about the last 3 months suggest he was not giving us what he did in the first couple. I am sad as when we got him I was really exited but time moves on and his head was turned.

This is a gamble but it was starting to look like a big gamble to stick with Silva also
I think Gino had to act and though I know very little of this guy I think better have him in quickly rather than no manager and a limbo situation

I was intrigued by MS comment the days of the physio running on to the pitch "old style" with no medical infrastructure at the club have gone.

However, I remember when Pat Molloy was the trainer with no additional support. The pitches were much muddier (balls into area might not even bounce), warm ups consisted of casually taking a few shots on goal, the ball was much heavier and held moisture yet (although I don't have stats to prove my point) I think that injuries were much fewer and recovery times were much quicker.

But football is a very different game now, it’s so much quicker. These leads to a whole different raft of problems.

Sounds more a 'H' than a J when Spanish people pronounce it. See post #83.

If he can manage to lift team moral and keep us up it may well help continuity into next season, assuming he stays. The players will have 7 months of training with him and his systems and having him in place already it will allow the Pozzo’s to identify transfer targets with him sooner than previous years and allow them to join the squad in pre-season rather than after the season starts.

But we don’t play in the Spanish League. He never ended up joining Seville and Malaga let him go. He was a miserable failure in Russia. Had we appointed him in the summer I’m sure I’d have been more positive and seen his potential to settle here once he’d had a bedding in period. But we don’t have that luxury now. We’re in a relegation battle. It’s the first appointment Gino has made for us so late in a season with relegation looming. It’s totally different from a summer appointment. We didn’t need a novice to England. It’s too big a gamble.

Malteser, I’m a fan of your posts in general, but you’re judging very early here. Jokanovic came in with a limited reputation and look what happened. Who would you have gone for to replace Silva? With Prem experience I can’t think of anyone I’d have picked

The Sky sports bint earlier was on the phone to Luther and started questioning how he felt about some bloke who had been sacked by Ruben Kazan that no one had ever heard of joining the club. These people paint whatever picture they want to.

A few genuine journalists have fully backed what has happened to Silva today, but the cringey ex pros (Lineker, Neville, Owen) are out looking for likes and retweets from armchair Liverpool and Man U fans. Even Jake Humphrey, who to my knowledge hosts Formula 1 after party programmes, decided to have his say....
