Lets hope Silva realises how much better they both performed as a pair. Neither of them deliver what is needed as a lone striker, but when they played together today they showed they could deliver much better as a pair.
Phil Thompson was watching our game In the Sky studio. He was amazed with the decision as Kabasele was playing Long onside.
Reality check based on facts - 15 games left until end of season. - 26 points are what WFC currently have gained so far. - 11 points are what WFC have collected in past 15 games. - 37 points is the projected finishing points for WFC.
Janmat's strengths lie in his attacking ability: to keep the crosses coming in and having a very good shot. His weakness is in defending, chiefly his lack of pace. The coach's job is to devise a way of playing him that accounts for these things.
Anyone who has doubted the desire in this squad or Deeney's value must be feeling very silly now. Tactical masterclass from Silva in the second half after we found ourselves 0-2 down against the run of play in the first. Some saying equaliser was hand ball - no f***ing way! Come on you Horns!!!!!!
God we were awful in the first half. They did nothing special apart from drop pace in behind us. Both fullbacks want shooting 2nd Half playing, as we have all said for bloody ages, with 2 up front we looked so much better A point gained after the first 45. Must do better though
This season is a write-off now. For the remaining games we've just got to scrap it out. Will we beat 40 points? Highly unlikely, so we've spent more on players season after season but have got decidedly worse. The first half of our debut season is the best we've played without doubt. We've got nowhere near that level ever since, although we did have a little cameo of good away form at the start of this season, which fooled a lot of people. It's all about taking points from those teams below us. Do that and we should be fine, but we are in a precarious position. Some people are fooled by the league table and just look at that without seeing the dangers. We are just 6 points from the drop. So we have a 2 win advantage over the team 3rd from bottom. Forget Leicester, as that will be a loss, we must not lose at Stoke. We have to maintain that 6 point gap at all costs. Tonight we can give thanks to lady luck which gave us a point. At half time Silva's P45 was typed up and all but sealed. After all the frank talking before the game, Watford played just as rubbish as they've done in most of their home games to date, so it had no effect. Bring on Deeney and it changed everything. It's not the first time he's come on and changed the game. We cannot continue like this though. I've absolutely hated this season. The quality of football at Vicarage Road has been dreadful. There are so many problems, but it's like this season after season. We seem to have a short period of success followed by 7 months of turmoil. It all gets ripped up then the cycle starts over again.
MotD running order. Huddersfield 1 West Ham 4, Spurs 4 Everton 0, West Brom 2 Brighton 0, Palace 1 Burnley 0, Watford 2 Southampton 2, Newcastle 1 Swansea 1, Chelsea 0 Leicester 0 Bit surprised our match is so low down. It had 4 goals and a few big controversial incidents. Got to be better than the WBA and Palace matches surely.
Calum Wilson scores a handball for Bournemouth. He calls it a "bit of magic" and everyone laughs. Abdoulaye Doucoure scores a handball goal and there are calls for a 3 match retrospective ban.
Lack lustre first half, thought we were playing like a Mazzarri team moving the ball far too slowly, started to get on top before their goal then confidence just ebbed away Completely different second half. Came roaring out the traps and looked dangerous. I have been highly critical of Deeney over the last few months but it was a bit like the Deeney of old winning headers, little flick ons and closing down defenders. He and Gray looked a decent combination so mystifying Gray taken off. Pererya improved the balance in midfield. Good point in the end
West Brom rightly so, their first win in 20 games so it's more a story. Not sure how Palace & Burnley comes above it though.
I’ll post my thoughts on the game another time, but to share a thought that lingered with me from 85 mins onwards.... A small except from the Great Man’s book. From GT: He meant it in the best way possible but we burst into laughter. I often think about that moment and how it embodies everything we were about. We had a member of staff who wouldn’t rule out the possibility of scoring five in two minutes. He refused to admit defeat until the final whistle blew. That was the Watford way of doing things. Whatever we think of the current crop at the club, thought that was part fitting today.
Agree. F*cking ridiculous. Phil Thompson making it up as he goes along wanting a 3 game ban. How is it any bl**dy different to Wilson’s cheating and boasting about it?
People are saying handball, but it needs to be deliberate. Clearly he tried to head it, but was unfortunate to see the ball ricochet into his hand and in the net. Fair goal I say.
The best part of today's game. The atmosphere was actually very good and the scarf thing so effective. We should do this more often.
Just about the only bit I agree with is “come on you horns” but suspect that you are not entirely serious in this post
I'm as frustrated as anyone posting on here. But, I think we have to face the fact that all teams below the top 6 in the Premier League are plagued with problems and are inconsistent. Don't think the season is a right off, as we are as unpredictable as any other team from 10th downwards. Today showed how we can be utter rubbish yet also play with passion and really play exciting football. It's a lot harder out there for our players than it looks from the stands, regardless of how much they are paid. I don't think we have anyone who lacks commitment. I hope, after today, no one can doubt what Troy Deeney brings to this club, regardless of whether he is (obviously) not the same player that he was when he was younger. I wouldn't be surprised if Silva turns this around in the next few weeks - keep the faith.
Depends on what type of knock it is. If it is just a bruise then it will be 3 months. However, if it is a slight knock could be at least 6 months.
On the replay it showed that Long was a toe's length offside - but it was a much closer call than first appeared.
