We should be after him but are less likely to get him if we are competing with 3 bigger prem clubs who are likely to make a higher bid. Richarlison was a great signing where we weren't competing with any british clubs and he clearly saw the benefit of coming to the UK. Hopefully Gino has a few others like this up his sleeve but as soon as an auction starts we wont be highest bid. Of course there is no way of knowing which clubs are truly interested so we may be the only bidder .....or not interested at all.
A few factors that may help our pursuit (if, indeed, we are in for him): - will know of Marco Silva from his time in Portugal, albeit playing for the big rivals - him and Pereyra were surely in at least a couple of Argentina squads together, I'm guessing they're acquainted? - style of play (maybe avoid showing him highlights from December though) - "The Project" - some b*****ks about being close to London If he's just after money then we're bottom of the list, but otherwise we're an attractive prospect by comparison. Personally I would be very happy with him as a signing - could see him doing a Carrillo and regaining his form of a couple of seasons ago, following a difficult period.
That's about 3 windows now that Gaitan has been offered around but no takers.... I'm not too sure that there is anything in this but I suppose time will tell.
Ming Clearly the locals have not heard of Status Quo regarding the one string comment! The Cultural Revolution can't have been all bad!
Hello I Blame Bassett, Ming here from China. Unfortunately according to the ITK charter I am forbidden to discuss any topics other than transfer rumour, hearsay and supposition. At this moment the ITK network is experiencing some human resources issues as it appears one of our agents, Jim, has gone rogue. An ITK lone wolf can cause irreparable damage to our ITK network's credentials so I would ask you to temporarily disregard any information he disseminates to this forum unless it's been first verified by either myself or Tim. Thank you for your kind understanding and I do hope this hasn't affected your enjoyment of this January transfer window. As we say in China: Bùy*o xiāngxìn nǐ de qīzi, zhíd*o tā shēngle shí gè er zi (Do not trust your wife until she has borne you ten sons)
Reports in Spain are saying that Gaitan to Watford will be done on Thursday or that Thursday is a crucial day, whatever that means.

It's also bin day. Though actually not this week, they are still catching up from Xmas/NY. Friday may be more crucial this week.
I could never get the hang of Thursdays. Will do Ming. "Question everything. Learn something. Answer nothing." As Euripides said. Look out for the smog.
Having chased Lemina, Boufal and Gabbiadini I think it's safe to say Gaitan is off to Southampton as well. That's basically their scouting system.
Twitter rumours again....Gaitan has been in Lisbon today (Instagram kind of confirms this) to pick up his Portuguese passport before possibly coming to England. I don't know what all of this means but he didn't have a European passport when he signed for Atletico so maybe he's been granted Portuguese nationality now after being there for so many years with Benfica?
Looks like we have got him. What a signing this is. Not going to be "officially" excited until it's officially announced though .
Just had a look for rumours, he is linked heavily to Everton, we have only stuck our oar in to piss them off - fair play
I am Benfica Fan... Nico is my favourite player. Is Skills are amazing. Until now, i just see rumours.. Do you Know more something?
