You would have thought that with squad places on the line they would have put a shift in. Not so. If I was a pro in that dressing room a cuppa or two would be hitting the wall! Your right some of those guys need to use the exit and don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out.
Don't hate you at all. You showed up and gave 100%. We were atrocious. Enjoy the next round - you deserve to be there.
What does Okaka have to do to get a game. The only striker that has scored for us and he wasn't even on the bench.
That was an extremely disappointing result. I am annoyed that Holebas did his usual idiotic thing and get himself sent off for being over emotive. However, it is only one game and there is no need to panic. We've just had two very good results in the league and that is ultimately what matters. When have we ever won a game in the league cup before, anyway?! Still believe we have a bright season ahead...
Really? Just Mariappa from that starting XI I think. I would say Watson but he's played both league games this season.
A couple of days after we lost to Millwall last season we beat Arsenal so it doesn't mean much in that respect. The lack of a LB is a worry though.
Well that was a shambles, what seemed to be a good solid team on paper looked disjointed and weak. I think todays game has shown who the dead wood is in the squad. I will start from back to front! Mariappa just here to make numbers up to be fair, Holebas ill disciplined I said before the game I would play Brandon Mason as we have no real left back cover for the premier league. Watson is a likeable chap but a championship player in my opinion and tends to slow the game down really does not have that quality like Chalobah and Doucoure. Success needs to go he is not going to play and quite rightly so the lad needs to learn to play with his head up sometimes. I would sell Troy if the money is right and we can replace him with a centre back and cover for Holebas and make Prodl or Cleverley the new captain. Would keep Nordin Amrabat but only as cover for Carrillo.
How does anyone truly expect to fill a team full of second rate players (due to fitness, lack of game time, returning from injury etc), make them play in a second rate competition, and not get a second rate performance? As soon as I saw the team sheet I fancied City's chances. That said, City can only beat what's in front of them and probably made changes too- so great result for them and congratulations. Holebas needs to f*** off.
Had forgotten how much Watson and capoue slow everything down. And how depressing it is to see Watson lining up to take our set pieces. Been great for us but well past his sell by date now
On the plus side, the past two seasons in the Prem when knocked out of the League Cup we have gone on to lose the next game in the Prem. How is this a plus you ask? I have saved you all the heartache from a "shock" defeat on Saturday, now it's expected.
And why the **** bring all 10 players back for their corners when we are 1-2 down against a team for the division below us ???
to be fair to the salad-dodger, he's just come back from surgery & missed pre-season completely. So he's probably not fit AND just ****
Watford vs lower league oppo in the League Cup .... Consistently predictable result deja vue Groundhog Day all over again. And again. And again. And again.
Honestly Mariappa is an absolute joke of a player. Don't think I've seen a performance that bad from memory and I've been around for far longer than I wish was true. Holebas was fine, let his anger get the better of him but I'd rather that than not giving a ****. Watson was very poor. Capoue not much better. We missed Chalobah and especially Doucoure massively. Kabasele is saved by his pace but played well enough, prodl was sloppy but did okay. Both victims of a static central midfield who don't cover. Amrabat did a job, wrong decision to take him off as he tracks back unlike Success and Richarlison. After he went off it became brutally clear how bad Mariappa is so I think that was the turning point. Hughes was poor, didn't influence much but some nice touches. Richarlison/Success at least looked good going forwards and took people on, both need to do much more tracking back. Deeney was horrendous (however not the worst player due to Mariappa comfortably taking the crown). He held the ball up a little but he's WAY too static. Richarlison has played so well as he can drift inside when Gray (and Okaka to a slightly lesser extent) runs the channels but Deeney will literally just run up and down in a straight line. Cash in if anyone wants him.
Sadly think Troy's time has past. Hope proved wrong but looks slow and unlikely to fit into the hard working energetic team that Silva is looking to build.
Oh dear - how naive of me to expect a good performance! Cannot think of any positive from that game. Chalobah, Docourae and Cleverley will not be losing any sleep about their midfield positions. Deeney was unfit and we made Bristol City look rapid in attack. No wonder Silva stormed straight down the tunnel.
No we are that good we don't need one. We will switch to 343 and play total football against Brighton and win 4-1.
Bearing in mind both Giraldi and Silva have said Richarlison can play down the middle we now have 4 decent players capable of playing in the one striker role. Bad financial sense to leave all that quality on the bench . Time for Gino to realise some assets and re invest in defenders.
Really, I think a lot of people looked at the team sheet and thought it was a strong side. Apart from Deeney and Mariappa most of the others have been involved this season.
Poor performance from us. Every move thst went through our CM's was slowed down way to much. Not too bothered about the result though as I'm not fussed about this cup. Also Bristol took all their goals well despite the poor defending. I'm more annoyed that Holebas can't play Saturday. Not sure how we're gonna get around this problem.. Sign a new lb? Play Britos lb? Djedje seems to have dissapeared and I don't think Mason is ready for the Prem. The left back for Bristol today looked a pretty decent player tbf. Don't remember him getting beaten once by Amrabat or Richarlison, was always an option in attack and I think he got the assist for the 2nd.
Can't wait for Mason to take the starting LB role by storm on Saturday. I'm really not surprised we lost and Holebas for all his good, can be an absolute bell sometimes as proved tonight. LB should have been one of the first positions to splash the cash on. Not because I don't rate Holebas, but everyone knows he is a suspension just waiting to happen every game. Part of me wonders if a new LB is in coming and this was his way of displaying his "sick of this ****" attitude. All joking aside, I do hope we give Mason a go on Saturday because Britos at LB is a big no no. Tried last season under the master tactician that is Mazzarri and it was awful. At least with Mason's pace and it being his natural position we would be more balanced. He would also have cover from Chalobah and Doucoure which was non existent last season. It's either Mason or the new LB we hopefully bring in before the 12pm deadline on Friday so he can play at the weekend. Annoying and embarrassing that we lost but really not a surprise. That was a typical Watford FC League Cup display. It's what I have come to expect in this competition.
Didn't see Holebas' first booking, not overly annoyed at his second. He made a mistake, then slipped and tried to recover desperately which led to a poor tackle. We were still in the game and he certainly didn't have time to think about our LB options for Saturday. Anyway, it's not his fault we haven't got a replacement. No idea what Prodl was doing for the first goal, was he going to let the City player go the whole way to our net without putting any pressure on? Could've told Kabasele to take the oncoming free man and put pressure on the guy with the ball. Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk
Also, Cathcart has played a lot of LB for Northern Ireland but he probably isn't fit enough to start a game in the PL yet. Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk
