Okay I'm gonna upset a few but...

Harry the Hornet is great for entertaining the crowd before the match but during the match that bloody drum is REALLY annoying. Any form of instrument being played (England matches take note) during the match should be banned. This insane bashing of a drum is counter productive to building an decent atmosphere. It is often bashed just when the Rookery get going and kills any potential song being sung.
Harry, keep up the antics but PLEASE lose the drum it's so naff.

Nonsense. Couldn't hear it from near the top of the Rookery.

I remember a man taking a drum to away games, personally thought it got the travelling support bouncing. Even had some Sunderland supporters commenting on it after a game at the stadium of light.

Yes, but at away games the drum was by its nature in the middle of the away fans. When HtH bashes away down in the VR/GT corner in order to get the kids shouting Watford, it is often as you can hear sound building from the rookery. Plus...
while 'duh, duh, duh-duh duh, duh-duh duh-duh WATFORD' is just about okay, when he follows it with 'duh duh yellow army' it is utterly, utterly embarrassing. Wrong timing, wrong tempo, awful. Please stop.

    Please.

Anyone notice Holebas trying to gee up the Rookery after the crowd basically went silent on around 35 minutes?

As this subject has been raised, If I'm totally honest the home atmosphere at VR, or lack of, is a little embarrassing.

There is no one in SEJ or GT Stands that ever make a whimper, clapping only, so everything is left to the 1881 & a small section of the rookery. Its like people are embarrassed to sing up when they know no one else will join in, which is understandable.

If there is anything we or the club could do to change this up a bit, I think we could make things much better. How about an 1881 section in the corner of every stand to get things going.

Also where has 'We all follow the Watford over land & sea" chant gone??

Yesterday was quite pathetic, even from the 1881.

It was 3-2, we had a lot of the ball, gunning for an equaliser and it was totally silent.

Not one to slate 1881 as I really like what they do but I'm not sure what happened yesterday, might have been the early kick-off.

Silva remarked how good the atmosphere was. Several players have said this too.

Liverpool were loud at the start and of course when they scored. Apart from that they were fairly quiet.

Watford has never been a hotbed of noise and never will be. It's just a nice place to play football.

Players are allowed to develop without fear of retribution from the fans (apart from Diakite who the fans hated), so it has its benefits.

Perhaps the people sitting there don't want to sing whilst watching the match. They're perfectly within their rights not to do so.

It's nothing to do about rights & I've heard that line used before & understand out of 20,000 the vast majority don't or won't want to sing, but nor should the quiet ones that go to a football match ever complain about people that do sing & chant regardless of what stand it's in, to show support to the team & make the atmosphere better for everyone.

Watching on tv from Bahrain there were a few lulls in what noise was being broadcast and I did see Holebas try and gee the crowed up so I thought the atmosphere must have gone a bit flat but when there was chanting and singing it was heard!
It must be hard for the 1881 to keep it going for 95mins and as HB1 says it has never been a hotbed of noise but that needs to change!
Maybe now we will be playing the kind of football that the fans want to see that will help to keep them wanting to create more noise and roar the team on!

Was pretty loud where we were for most of the game bar a couple of minutes after their third.

I don't really think home fans ever really make much noise.

Teams away support are always loud and if you've been away with us then you'll know it's the same.

Home fans generally seem to be outsung by away fans in most teams.

It wasn't as bad yesterday than it was at times last season. Still pretty crap, although the flags look nice.

The real noticeable thing was that the Rookery will join in with a song for a verse, then instantly stop. I'm not sure I have ever seen such a stark transition from noise to pure silence, than at the Vic.

You believe that?! Silva was playing lip service, all the managers say that & so will the players from time to time.

I was there at the game & it was quiet, especially for the first game of the season. You have got 'at best' 500 in the 1881 singing & in a ground of 20,000 that cannot ever be loud. They do a great job. Imagine what it would be like without 1881?

However I must hand it to you, I genuinely like how you turned it round & say players can develop without 'fear of retribution' as a reason people don't sing at VR!

The atmosphere is poor. The 1881 used to be quite loud but are now much quieter than when they started. People say the atmosphere has always been bad but I disagree late 90s early 00s was good, been getting gradually worse since then.

Do people really think that all the stands are suddenly going to join in with all the singing?

    A. That's never happened in the past.
    B. That doesnt happen anywhere these days.

It's always been that the singing starts in small pockets and spreads if the moment warrants it. I think if youre blaming the upper GT or wherever for not joining in then youre not working hard enough to get it going.

PS The atmosphere yesterday sounded bloody excellent on the TV in Norway!

it was very quiet yesterday for a game that could have gone either way.

The 1881, who have done a great job to date, will always be the ones to generate the atmosphere and were really quiet yesterday by their standards

Emma on the mike is a professional compared to that Shorty bloke

Harry is a legend and genuinely only seems to start the drumming when there is a lapse in the atmosphere

1881 flash mob style infiltration is needed. Strategically placed ringers throughout the quietest bits could test the mettle of those who are too shy to start but keen to follow.

A bit like a Sonos multiroom system at a sh!t party

I know you get alot of flak HB1 but you are right that the atmosphere yesterday was pretty OK. We are never going to generate the same volume as a 30 - 40k stadium. Someone mentioned it went quiet when Liverpool threatened to overrun us at 3 - 2. Apart from that even the rather fickle GT stand made some noise. The entertainment on show determines atmosphere and if we get more of yesterday don't think much needs to be done.

Isn't that what happens now? Some people sing and some people don't. I don't follow your idea of splitting up the singing section between stands. The whole point of the 1881 was to get all the singing section in the same place for greater effect. I'm really no sure what the issue is - I thought the atmosphere was decent on Saturday.

I actually thought the atmosphere was pretty good yesterday, certainly compared to last season. Having said that I do sit in the Rookery so perhaps dont have the most balanced view of it, however it did appear like more people than usual in the two side stands were joining in even if just to clap.
