Yeah, I seem to remember him being touted as the 'next big thing'. I also kicked off when it transpired that he was on trial at Manchester United and they were going to potentially stuff us for him, so it's odd to find he's been released on a free after all that.
Waiting for the testimonial to be announced Renegie XI v Gilmartin XI. Also saw a few on twitter saying Obi's issue was attitude rather than talent but I don't know how true that is and perhaps all just rumour.
May well be, I have absolutely no idea on him myself just what I read and thought I'd pass the idle gossip on!
I liked Renegie, after all he scored 4 goals in just 10 appearences, some of which were off the bench, that is a good strike rate in anybodies book.
Amazingly, the Juanfran saga drags on and on and on. There's some sort of shenanigans going on with Deportivo's option to buy and a future sell on clause, and we're asking for more money to eliminate the sell on clause. Looks like we're playing hardball for a guy that has never even set foot in Vicarage Road, and has been on loan at Deportivo for three seasons. Classic Ponzos! http://www.marca.com/futbol/deportivo/2017/06/08/59391ee3e5fdea9e5a8b4610.html
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...gns-long-term-atletico-madrid-deal-until-2026 This has nothing to do with Watford but I have never seen a player given a 9 year contract before. Has anyone else heard of a deal that long?
No. And I vaguely thought deals of that length were banned at one point but they seem to have become a thing on the continent of late so obviously not.
Any of the youngsters signed a new contract yet? As for very long ones - remember David Moyes was given a 6 year one at Old Trafford - lasted 9 months I think?
Ogi Obi had serious attitude problems .... even bad by modern youth player standards . Only reason they let him go
Not really , heard from 2 different coaches . I would give their names but its bad protocol for them to be criticising youth players publicly . They just said he had a bad attitude , and that he sometimes feigned asthma attacks as he didn't want to play , didn't listen to advice being given to him .Said he was a very talented player but would never make it because his mental approach wasn't good . They said Folivi was much better in that respect . I first heard this at the Brentford away game that Ighalo scored a brace so must have been almost 3 years ago . One of the coaches said that at youth foreign tournaments the attitude of European youth players is in stark contrast to the young English players . More respectful , humble whereas the English lads act like they've already made it .
Funnily enough @BigRossLittleRoss, was told very similar stuff also 3 years ago back in 2014! (http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/ogi-obi.45720/page-3)
Ogo Obi may have a bad attitude but he looks to be working hard since his release. Can't bring himself to take his watford shorts off though... last remaining thing that links him to being a footballer. https://www.instagram.com/p/BWDcIM4B0ye/?taken-by=ogoobi
good to see... i hate to see talent wasted. maybe being let go by watford was the kick up the arse he needed.
Britos, Watson and Holebas all out of contract in the summer. Think it might be goodbye to all three, Holebas and Britos just cost us too many goals every season and Watson will clearly be released. If so, we'll really need to sign someone who can take a set piece as Holebas is the only one in the squad who can.
Holebas will be hard to replace, there seems to be quite a few teams who need a new left back. Hopefully our fabled scouting network can unearth some mad south american noones ever heard of
https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/official-new-deal-holebas New deal for Holebas. Hands up who saw that one coming??
Presumably he's triggered a clause which gave him the option. Frustrating. He'll be a month away from his 36th birthday when the new deal expires.
