Many people have said that he was badly missed at Old Trafford and I tend to agree, but who should play the holding role when he is not available? We need a player who is reasonably quick enough to cover for our wingbacks when they are caught forward, but he also needs to be solid enough to protect our CB's. So who do we have that could understudy Behrami's role? I would have thought one of our array of CB's would be best suited for the job, so which one has the necessary pace and manouverability? Kabasele? Mariappa? Cathcart? Britos? Prodl? or Kaboule? Have I forgotten anyone? Who would you suggest from that lot, or do you have anyone else in mind, I have forgotten to add Watson, which maybe should be the most obvious choice to many of us, but not to Walter for some reason?
Before anyone says this is in the wrong thread, I attempted to post a similar post in the "Team Bus" thread late last night but it did not registar! Therefore this is my second much shorter attempt, as it took me sometime to write the original  Anyway, who should be Behrami's understudy, as we badly need someone who can step in effectively when he is not available, because as many have suggested he was really missed against United and has been missed many times before. I would think that Watson is probably the best choice from our current crop of players, but Walter does not seem to agree with that. Some might suggest that Ducoure could be another, but to me he is more a box to box midfielder and would be wasted in the holding role. What about one of our considerable number of CB's, as they are natural defenders, so would be solid sitting in front of a back four, but they would also need to have reasonable pace to cover our WB's when they are pushing forward. So who do you think could do a decent job, that is until we bring in another specialist in Behramis position?
Easy guys - not everyone can touch type. It can take a while to post any thread of length on a forum if it's not a simple copy/paste job. So I personally respect everyone who puts their time and effort into doing so.
Hogg must be due back from his loan soon? I would say Doucoure is adequate enough for the remainder of the season or perhaps even Kabasele could be worth a go there, doesn't need to be as disciplined in that position and can carry the ball fairly well but seemingly lacks the stamina and fitness to last 90mins! The ideal scenario next season I think would be to get someone young like a Chalobah/Ake type to rotate with and learn from Behrami assuming he stays.
It was registered just that new threads are moderated in here. I've added a sticky to explain. Threads merged.
actually I would have liked him to stay, our only defender with any skill on the ball, could play a david luis type role,
Behrami might be in Silva's plans after all. Doesn't mean a great deal but look like he's being given a squad number. https://twitter.com/ronnabe/status/885273590618181632
Player had a chance of heart? Mind you we have seen players being given a number but have left soon after!
Maybe prospective purchasers saw him lumbering around with his dodgy knees at the end of the season and thought no thanks! Has been a good player for us but now he looks shot.
Probably because they're struggling to get their targets in, who'd have thought Plan C would be just keep the players we've got. Next announcement, super Ben Watson!
Silva confirms Behrami is a goner. Just got to find somewhere to dispatch him to. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...5442536.Behrami__will_not_stay__with_Watford/
To be honest I think that's bloody harsh Behrami put a shift in even when not fully fit, when a lot around him weren't. Hopefully he will find a place to further his career.
Don't think it's particularly harsh. Behrami says he wants to leave. Silva says OK, but doesn't want to keep him in the squad in the meantime because he wants player who are committed to staying at the club. Seems the best solution for all parties to me.
