Could be worth a punt if he is looked at as a replacement for Pereyra but didn't look great the last time he played in PL. Does he have a specific position or is he someone who will get dragged around and not nail down a starting place in any of them

I also don't really remember him but if it were a loan then could be worth a punt, has experience in the PL so hopefully would settle in quickly.

This is such an underwhelming rumour, I'm really hoping it turns out to be fodder for the 'b o l l o c k s' file. If not, the jokes on here about Pozzo transfer strategy and the kind of players we will end up bringing in will seem just a little less humorous.

He's not a playmaker, and he's a fairly **** striker who's had more than one opportunity in the Prem and really can't be said to have done anything other than fail every time.

Obviously, I'm not privy to behind the scenes negotiations so I don't know who else we are looking at, but we're actually over halfway through the window now, and what we really need is a Pereyra replacement. That is the number 1 requirement, and early in the window there were reports that we would be prepared to sanction up to £20m for a high class playmaker. What's happened to that? I've been vocal on here several times, as have others, that regardless of Walt in or Walt out, what we need to ensure this season is a success and doesn't end in a relegation battle, or even the dreaded relegation itself, is signings.

In our current situation, sitting on our hands, 'waiting for the injuries to come back' and seeing what happens will not be enough. Logic suggests there will be further injuries, particularly given our ludicrous record this season, and it has been savagely exposed how the loss of just one or two specific players can wreak havoc on the way that we play and our ability to compete. I've seen several people suggest that Janmaat makes a huge difference to our attacking play, and that we are a different team with him in the side. That may well be true, but if it is, he's played, what, half our games this season? We can't just pretend that isn't the case and stick our fingers in our ears, insisting he will be magically robust at 110% every match for the rest of the season, guaranteed, as soon as he comes back from this current spell out.

We need to recruit to improve our own side, to keep up with other sides around who have already brought in players, and to negate the almost total lack of attacking impetus or creativity we have. Whilst I am a fan of him, and would absolutely advocate playing him, playing Doucoure at No.10 is not the answer.

Why does this seem so much at the moment like stubbornness? I could obviously be absolutely mugging myself off thanks to my total lack of behind the scenes info, but I can't help but feel that this business could be being conducted in a more fan-friendly and open way. I'm not suggesting for a minute that we start naming our targets and claiming we're going to buy specific players, because that would obviously be unprofessional madness, but why do we hear so little from the horse's mouth about exactly where we're looking and why?

"The striker is highly regarded by Watford manager Walter Mazzarri and the transfer is currently being completed for Zarate."

What happened to the Pozzo's network scouting and buying. Managers are all bringing in their own favourites.

This seems like such an underwhelming signing. I just... I just can't..... it's just... it's just all so meh!

I do find some of the players we are linked with a little peculiar when we constantly talk about having a scouting network looking at several players for each position. Hoping that having said as a club we don't want to do 'bad business' in January that we dont end up doing exactly that! I will however say that so far our only signing (Cleverley) looks like good business

Why would the Pozzos risk spending £20m on players when we have a chance of getting relegated?

Zarate is exactly the sort of player we would be signing at this point. Journeyman, uninspiring, 29 years old, been in relegated teams before, hope that we might get something out of them, probably cheap.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but I'm not saying they should pay that much, after all we didn't pay anywhere near that for Bobby himself, that was just the figure reported in an early article. That being said, I imagine the answer would be 'to negate the possibility of getting relegated by improving the team/bringing in a replacement for a position we are now completely lacking in and is vital to our supposed style of play.'

They're businessmen, as we always hear, and this would be a calculated risk, speculating to accumulate, blah blah blah, all that old s h i t. It'd cost them a lot more to get relegated than it would to spend on players in positions that there is absolutely no debate over the fact that we need.

Quality on Foobtall Manager (a few years back). Not great in real life.

Could be worse - £10m for Bamford!

    Tragic rumour...

What is the point? The beauty of the January transfer window is players can come in and hit the ground running. Hes in and out of the team at Fiorentina, played like 7 times!

Smacks of Diamanti who was fat and useless among other things

Really weird player. Loads of ability and not a lot of application yet has still managed over 100 goals in 340 odd appearances which isn't that shabby. Hes fairly lightweight but decent at dead balls and is more of a false 9 than a striker as he doesn't really like going up against big centre halves. He looked good at brum, decent when he wanted to for the spammers and was pretty much on strike at QPR so his attitude Is a touch questionable.

No nothing about him, but if he is rated by Walter, perhaps its a low risk way of giving him enough rope. At the moment the Head coach is not getting goals out of the two regularly fit and available strikers.

I would question the Pozzo's sanity if they bring in any more of Wallys journeyman!

At this moment in time a one legged Marco Boogers would be an upgrade on Ighalo.

Apparently this season he averages a goal every 69 minutes spent on the pitch, which is not bad, and better than Iggy's goal every 69 weeks spent on the pitch.

Scores a goal from open play every 199 minutes across three seasons in the Premier League, Deeney gets one every 575 minutes. Would at least increase our goal threat, even though he's never really established himself as a starter in the Premier League.

This is it. Will he realistically get a chance to challenge the first teamers or just be another bench warmer who may get on if everyone else is injured.

It just feels so uninspiring that he seems like just another bit-part player rather than genuine first team comprtition.

I am very much more than happy to be proved wrong. No hat eating will be offered though.

I know. People are actually trying to find some way of making this god awful idea of a signing into a good idea.

Didn't Hornet23 say we weren't signing people from Italy anymore? For once, I hope he's right.

Some hilarious reactions on here. He'll give us goals, creativity and something different between now and the end of the season.
