First time I've genuinely been tearful about a Celeb death. Really shocking.

Personally, this was my greatest memory of GT, having been just too young to enjoy the 80's successes. He lived near my grandparents for a while in the 90's too. Such a lovely man. Pretty cut up about this news.

F**k f**k f**K. Devastating news. This man created the club we all love today. Without him and the backing of Elton we would still be some back water club in lower divisions. We owe him for everything we have today. I'm gutted :(

Dreadful news. Always came across as a true gent, and always will be a fantastic ambassador to football.

me too. So many memories, so many stories. My daughter was 6 when he 'retired' and asked her Mum why her Dad was sad. She wrote a letter to him and a week later she got a lovely reply(still framed). A couple of years later when he was back at the villa he met with the Norfolk 'orns in a pub in thetford before their game with Ipswich. I mentioned the letter and he remembered and remembered her name. The words legend and great get scattered around, but Sir GT was all these things and a gentleman to boot

Absolutely devastating. I'm sure many of us know and love Watford thanks to the success born from the incredible work of this man not just for the club but for the community that surrounds it. A gentleman who seemed to have time for every fan he met.

A sad loss for Watford and for football, but also a reminder through these tributes of how remarkable he was.

    RIP

Just devastating news. So so sad. Such a decent man who did so much to bring all of us so much pleasure and happiness.

I don't mean to sound pompous but maybe as a mark of respect all of us on the forum can put aside any differences we may have with each other and keep the next few days free of arguing and insults when discussing our next few matches and the manager and tactics etc.

Graham united supporters and indeed a whole town and wider behind the football team we ALL support. He made us all proud to follow our club, rather than choosing one of the bigger teams to get behind. He leaves us knowing we are back in the top division, and I'm sure he was very proud of that.

Thank You for so many happy memories. You enriched all our lives as Watford supporters.

Absolutely this; first time the death of someone I don't know personally has made me cry. So many of my formative - and best - football memories are tied in with his years in charge. And, like others have said, he always came across as a genuine, decent man too. RIP.

Could the 1881 organise a fitting tribute? I would be happy to contribute if funds needed.

Devasting news. I was lucky to meet him a couple of times when I was a nipper, have a photo with him in fact. A massive loss to both WFC and football in general.

Just heard the news on R4 - I'm wearing the Mizuno top that I was wearing when I met him in Kaunas - unfortunately he never said "Do I not like that top" only it was his favourite.

    RIP.

What a great shock and great loss to his family and football.

I talked to him at the Spurs game and he seemed fit and well, cannot believe he has now died.

I started following WFC in his first season, what a great journey he took us on.

Just heard the news. I am gutted. Legend is a term that is used very lightly nowadays, but GT was a legend. What he did for Watford FC was unbelievable. He was the greatest manager our club has had and will ever have. His 1st spell as manager will never be bettered, and he took us on a fantastic journey. He was gentleman, who always had time for the fans. Perhaps later in another thread we can share those stories, but for now I sit here typing this, and tears are rolling down my cheek. A gentleman, a legend, and brilliant man manager and motivator, and above all he was Watford FC.
