It doesn't really, as he's done nothing up front. Also, plenty of attacking options in the U21's that Flores steadfast refuses to use, so it's as you were in terms of attacking options.
This goes out to my homie Steve Berghouse (of Pain):
We weren't great and neither were Palace tonight. It's as if their minds are on other things............
Dunno, maybe a few games ago when we brought 9,000 fans away to Arsenal, won the game and secured a place in the FA Cup semi final?
Didn't watch or listen to the game, but another woeful performance from this disgrace of the team. If the Daily Mail is to be believed then QSF is for the chop, the only question is why it has taken so long.
Absolutely. Bringing Deeney on for 15 mins when 3-1 and dead and buried is ludicrous, Amrabat is not very good at all and was Suarez even playing? Also feel QSF should've protected Holebas and got him off at HT. He was awful.
QSF continues to frustrate me though. Amrabat has never ever looked like a striker & has even said himself that he's a winger. And then he also plays Abdi, quite obviously not a winger, as a winger. Why not play an actual striker and an actual winger?
Thought ol' Jurey did well tonight. But that's 24 games without a goal or an assist, which is nothing short of hilarious.
Well that couldn't of gone any worse haha, Amrabat missing for Palace game and Deeney's confidence dented
Even without the distraction of the semi final, tonight was always going to be tough. West Ham not lost in 15 home games. Thought we were poor in both penalty boxes, but ok in between. Amrabat is a fool. Totally unnecessary. Since he arrived he's made a habit of picking up needless yellow cards, and tonight has finally cost him. 3 months in and I'm still not sure what he really brings to the table. Tonight highlights again the foolishness of not signing an out and out (back up) striker in January. Berghuis decent cameo. On the bench Sunday? Deserves to be now. That's our first penalty miss in two seasons. Might as well miss one at 1-3 deep in stoppage time, if you have to miss one at all. Bonkers risking Deeney anyway. Wonder who our pen taker was had he not come on and with Abdi off? Everton and Palace both poor tonight too. United will never have a better chance of winning the cup. Reckon our tie is 50-50. Too close to call. Praying for a big performance from so many of our team on Sunday. They owe us one.
The NBC river showed a graphic at half time showing average position each player took up on the pitch. Abdi couldn't have been more central if he'd tried so I don't buy this argument that he's being shoved out on the wing. If anything the only difference with previous seasons is that he was slightly deeper, with Jurdo playing ahead of him in the AMC role.
It's not great, but I'm sure Abdi probably has similar stats. They're both being played massively out of position and asked to play in roles that don't make the most of their attacking qualities and it's sad to see as they're both obviously very talented players.
"Disgrace of a team" ?? Oh dear. What a drama queen. Quite ridiculous that people are getting their knickers in a twist over tonight's game. Everyone's mind was on Sunday - any kind of result tonight would have been an absolute bonus.
Guess I'm the only one who thought that wasn't a bad performance then? Thought we played some good football at times, was interesting to see the players having to play to feet rather than lumping it up to Deeney and Ighalo. Thought Suarez looked great in the first half, will certainly be involved next year. Jurado looked good with players nearer to him making space.
One game in the last four or five months. Our performances are so lethargic you can tell it has the same effect on the fans. Gone is the first half of the season when our players would press the opposition and at least show a modicum of effort in the opposition's half.
Indeed. It does make you wonder why we bother with the long ball stuff when Deeney and Ighalo would have thrived on the types of ball in that we saw tonight, both from Guedioura and Berghouse.
From what I saw it was ok until it got near our box or theirs. And there was nobody in their box, otherwise great stuff. Ighalo and Deeney on Sunday please and a hat trick for Jurado.
Perfect preparation for Sunday. Yet more penalty saving practice in for the keeper, get the penalty miss that was going to eventually come out of Deeney's system, perfect our corner set pieces ensuring yet another goal from a corner at the weekend, and finally the time has come to unleash Berghuis of Fun on an unsuspecting and unprepared Palace defence. Can't wait.
Agreed. I think when Deeney plays we have a tendency to just lump it up to him. If we played like that with 2 genuine, good wingers, we'll have a good side next season.
Welcome to the Premier League (which we sit 12th in btw). What exactly were you expecting? Besides, our performance was a lot of things tonight, but it definitely isn't what you're describing.
Well, I am (yet again) going to disagree with most of you. I thought we at least looked pretty good going forward and we lost to two poor penalties. But we actually passed well and held on to it, created a few chances and looked impressive. I'm obviously disappointed with the result, though. I didn't think the first was a pen, as I thought the free kick should have been given in his favour, and the second was a stupid tug back by Abdi.
Did you honestly think we would bust a gut in a meaningless end of season game with the biggest game of our season on Sunday?
Strange night. Knew we'd make wholesale changes against a strong WHU side pushing for Europe and much more to play for in the League than us. That said, to concede two more penalties tonight, defend poorly and look impotent in attack doesn't bode well, regardless of the team we put out. I didn't see anyone tonight look like they want to force their way in to the side for Sunday's game. Why risk Deeney when the game was over? What a sh*t penalty, looked far too casual. I still don't see what Amra**** brings to the party? Apart from silly dives, an awful first touch and as much composure as Capoue in the penalty area. Waste of money, although I do feel QSF is playing him out of position. Why not stick Jakubiak in tonight? At least he's an out-and-out striker that gives us an outlet. At least from the bench? I thought Berghuis was the only one that came on and wanted to impress tonight. Suarez hasn't impressed me either, looks lightweight and slow. A poor night, capped by a typical moment of stupidity from that clown Amra****. I'm glad he's out of the game on Sunday, complete liability. My squad for Sunday: Gomes Nyom Cathcart Britos Ake Behrami Watson Capoue Guedioura Deeney Ighalo Subs: Pants Prodl Holebas Suarez Abdi Berghuis Oluare (if fit)/Jakubiak Edit: Forgot Jurado! Would stick him in for Guedioura and stick Gueds on bench for Oluare.
someone said in the shoutbox "meh" and that sums up the game, bring on Sunday. I only saw the fouls once, agree that the first was as much backing in as Holebas climbing, the second looked like it started outside the box and he dived into the area, although I could be wrong. Our penalty was incredibly soft also. Is 2 pens conceded in 2 consecutive premier league games a record?
It's not a nothing game though, is it? Granted, we've got a big game on Sunday but I'd like to think the manager and coaching staff wouldn't be calling it 'nothing game' to those playing tonight. What sort of example would that set? For me, every game is important. Tonight was a great chance for some of the fringe players to stake a claim for a start on Sunday and really the only one who impressed me was Anya. Apart from that there were a lot of disinterested players already on the beach.
First penalty seemed very harsh to me. Second was a penalty but Antonio went over like he'd been shot. Amrabat let his frustration get the better of him. Really frustrating watching him not play out wide though. Overall we did a lot of things we haven't been doing at all well of late much better. Kept the ball well and had a lot of nearly moments with Abdi missing from the penalty spot, Guedioura and Anya pulling back a few good balls that weren't reached by onrushing attackers, etc etc. I'd be happy seeing Paredes start on Sunday, Suarez played well first half and we saw a bit more of why he's so highly rated. Jurado is so frustrating because he has so much class, keeps the ball well and seems to do a lot right. But again he failed to convert any of his endeavour into goals, and that's what he's there to do. Although Berghuis was better than I thought he'd be, he did concede possession so, so cheaply a few times. Still, he wanted the ball and I'd much rather see a nearly performance from someone always showing for it and looking to move things forward than I would see an okay but anonymous performance. We have to stop giving away penalties. It's mad.
You can't rest 7 players (for the first time all season) and say it's equally important as the other 37 league games. Sub consciously at the very least it's not going to happen.
