I've been getting this error message a lot over the last couple of weeks, stopping me from being able to get on the site for a few minutes each time. Any particular reason for this?
I've spoken to the hosts many times now and they keep telling me it's because we're busy. It's not, it's them, 100%, but they're not doing much about it. We're very aware of the issue and I'm fighting tooth and nail now for them to fix the issue.
I've now just received the message 'Fatal Error', followed by another few minutes of 'internal server error'. WFCforums is on life support.
Just to inform you all, we're upgrading to stop the errors. I have little choice. Next step after this would be a dedicated server. Luckily the as clicks still cover our backsides.
The server has been upgraded to the highest level of VPS server available. Our new visitor numbers meant we were eating all the memory up. We should be cooking on gas now. Any problems you see let me know.
Cheapest options are a shared server where they put a load of websites onto a single server Medium to high options are a guaranteed amount of memory and hard disk space on a server shared with a few others, called a Virtual Private Server = VPS Top end is a dedicated server that would be for us only, very expensive.
Interesting stuff. Out of curiosity, how much of an increase would we need in site traffic to require us to upgrade again to the dedicated server? And also, I assume the number of ad-clicks currently being received wouldn't be sufficient to cover said costs?
Ad clicks for June would cover a dedicated server, no problem. As you can imagine June has been wild on here, so it would concern me a bit if we had to find that amount every month. It could be done but it would be tight.
These clicks , are they really people out there clicking on those hotties on the right hand side , advertising mature ladies ? , my god , rarely do you see women that ugly
I know I'm old, but I have never researched 'Mature Dating', I did look at a write up for 50 shades though, does that count :naughty:
The ads are very clever. They are usually based on page content, but sometimes if a certain ad gets a lot of clicks then you might get a site targeted with a lot of the same type of ads. If we're seeing a lot of mature dating ads for a few weeks then it means we're giving them the good traffic. If I was allowed to I'd certainly be having a look .
Still having trouble getting onto the site occasionally. If I'm logged in to the forum, visit another site then come back the page doesn't always load. WFCForums is the only site I visit where this happens at the moment.
They sent the boys round as we were overloading their servers. They've been filling my sewers with rags until they overflow and are the cause of the constant bad weather! The issue with our hosts is that they keep blaming us, (the forum), for the speed issues, but over the years with them they've come up with a lot of stories about how it's always our fault, yet it never is. This time we appear to be at a point where they appear unwilling or unable to fix the current issues. The time for a new host is fast approaching, it just means we have to close the forum whilst this happens, which is a major pain at the moment due to so much news.
What a bunch of crooks! So their essentially forcing your hand into the upgrade. Have they specified how long the update will take?
It's not as simple as that and they are way better than a lot of the hosts, but I do think we're now paying over the odds for their issues. They've been very good over the years and their speed of support is second to none, but as seems to be the case with all hosts eventually the support tails off. Anyway, I'll give them until the end of the week to fix the issues else my hand is forced.
I retract my statement about them being crooks. Fair enough, I didn't realise they have been good these past years. I thought we switched hosts when we upgraded a couple of months back. Hopefully they sort the problem out.
The funny thing is, they're accusing certain IP addresses of having over 100 connections at a time, and the one they mentioned this morning was yours! Perhaps they're reading this thread!
There have been a few users that I have contacted and asked them to run a full virus scan and malware check. Could you do the same please? Everyone else has been clean, and I assume you will be too. It's the sort of thing that I've been dealing with a lot recently, IE not our issues.
