I'm just looking into something, but I'd like to know how many of you use mobile devices to access the site? It doesn't need to be your main way of accessing the site, but I'd like to know if you ever use a mobile device and come here.
One advice I'd like to give is the the text-representation of icons - something which appears if you choose not to load images on your mobile - are made so they do not mess up pages like they do now. Another option would be to "disallow" images uploaded to display on the mobile site. Can't wait for this - something I've been waiting for and I have a few ideas about it if you want some brain storming.
I use a Nokia and have never had any problems with my phone, from my perspective I'd prefer if you didn't mess with the site.
I rarely access it from my ipod touch if my laptops not working or if i cant be bothered to load it up and just want a quick check.
Same here, i regularly use it. Even the shoutbox is decent enough when i have signal. Actually posting this from my phone now
I tried once on my phone - which uses Opera - told me it was an untrusted site and so I couldnt open it. So for that reason I don't... because I can't.
You should be able to select an option to trust the site then you can open it. Whether you can actually trust an opinions on the site is another matter
I should be able to yes, but I can't seem to get anywhere with it at all. Not to matter anyway, I greatly dislike my phone although im stuck with it for over another year, so this just gives me a greater reason to hate it more.
i use opera and generally have no real problems. shout box is the only thing that tends to be slow, but i only use that once in a blue moon
I think it would be nice to have a version specially optimised for mobile viewing. I know other forums with such a setup.
My main method of accessing the site is through my Samsung Galaxy phone which I am using to post this message Don't have problems with it tbh
OK, something has been installed. I need one Android user and one IPhone user to try something for me. Hands up please .
Same with myself. Use it sometimes on my Blackberry and iPod touch. Works fine but if it's no hassle to Admin and co. then I'd like to see a mobile version.
Android wants me to buy an app as the forum now has an Android Native mode. Tis £1.87 so i'll give it a miss. Hopefully theres an Android user with it already installed.
OK, I just got it working with a blackberry so let's go for it. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS APP. The read only version is free. It should make the forum much quicker and simpler to load on mobiles. It has some great features but might lack a few of the nice bits that take time to load. Try it if you can. Apple IPhone users: http://itunes.com/app/tapatalkro (Be warned, the free edition might not be available until 1st December, you don't have to pay to use this, so don't). Android users: Go to marketplace and search for tapatalk, (free read only edition) Blackberry Users: Go to the browser and type this in: http://tapatalk.com/bb, install from there. Tapatalk for Nokia - FREE Tapatalk for Nokia supports all S60 3rd and 5th Edition devices, that covers almost all the Nokia medium to high-end models. Download Now at: Ovi Store Or direct download from your Nokia device by entering http://tapatalk.com/nokia/tapatalk.dm in Nokia web browser.
stupid question but how do you reply, can only see quote? Not too sure if just reading from normal browser is quicker to be honest
OK, yes, read only is the clue, so no posting. The only way to use it would be to buy the full version. I will remove it soon as I think that the experiment is a fail. Thanks for trying it, I thought it was to good to be true, it was.
If there's no cost to the forum in performance or price I'd say keep it. IT can be used free and some may chose to purchase.
Same! But I'm 19 and I really can't be bothered phoning Orange up and telling them that PYA doesn't use suggested foul language all the time..!
The way the software worked, anyone connecting via a mobile device was getting a nag screen as UEA saw. I think that's wrong, as nobody should have to pay to view and post on the site, and we certainly don't get a penny of the revenue. There must be a better solution.
I agre with your point - how about changing the font size and text that replaces icons and images when users opt not to have them shown. That is my main issue when logging on via mobile.
It just comes down to the vBulletin platform not being up to it Admin I think. I use another forum powered by these guys http://www.invisionpower.com/products/board/ and the mobile browsing software is free and of decent quality. Is what you've just tried vBulletin's version?
