A little bird has told me that we're not going to sign anyone else before the start of the season. Aidy was interested in a couple of players, who have been named on this forum, but their wage demands did not fit in with the club's pay structure and he has decided he'll go with the squad he has. Disappointing
Disappointing is a massive understatement. I really think we still need a couple more players to get promoted. Come on for **** sake, even if you get one player and pay him twice the wages. This is a total lack of ambition from the club in my opinion. If they don't want to spend the ****ing money given to them from the Young sale on transfers then spend it on ****ing wages. If this is true then I will be seriously annoyed because I actually thought we would go for it this year.
We have got a shed load of players though There are more things to life over the next four weeks than waiting to see who AB's gonna sign
Yes, it is disappointing. Especially when you see sh!tty teams like Norwich and Wolves picking up some quality purchases. What's the attraction there ? Weren't Wolves sold for 10p recently by Jack Hayward ? What's with the rich investors wanting to purchase Southampton ? Southampton ? South-f*****g- hampton ? There's a glamorous team for a daft Arab or Russian to invest in. Not ! We could do with some daft foreign trillionaire to throw his money at Watford, or maybe Elton could stop spending all his money on wigs, flowers and tantrums and give us a couple of billion to spend on training the children who work at the Rookery food kiosks !
Is it just down to wages or does our reputation as more direct than most not help although I know Aidy wants to change that. Rather have players who really want to play for the club than just here for the wage packet though. Still there is the loan system..and well there would be NO excuses for not spending in January when sadly we might loses couple of players. What is the highest wage we pay...I guess its something just over 10k to King? Our squad is decent without injuries but as always there was room for improvement.
There is still plenty of time for signings too come. It's ideal for there to come in early and get as much pre season etc. But doesnt always happen, sometimes you have to wait for the other club to buy a player before they can sell etc. WFC4ever do you really think the direct approach stops players from joining I dont think its that bigger factor. Espically if the player talks to Aidy he will bring up that question and I'm sure it will be a 50/50 approach next season.
While it is dissapointing we won't sign anyone else do you not feel our squad is strong enough as it is? We certainly have strength in depth, and as someone mentioned earlier there is always loans if we need someone... I personally don't feel there is anything to worry about.
Presumably H's wages are too high despite the rumours of being prepared to break the barrier. After deliberately trailing the signing of H this is poor PR from Aidy and the gang if it's true. Instead of starting the season on a really positive note this is a disappointment don't you think?
Just last week Aidy said it's getting towards the time when deals start to happen quicker. I find it hard to believe that with just under a month to go Aidy has everything he wants in place. I'm certain that we'll bring in at least 1 more player before the end of the transfer window.
I want to know which little Birdy told you ( to make the post believeable) and if this certain little Birdy has big lungs?
I would describe our squad as "solid" but it does not really have the next level of quality we need IMHO. We have the money and a year now to build for the Premiership again. Not only do we need to bring the players in who will get us promoted, but we need players who will settle over the next 12 months and will not flounder at the top level. I am not convinced that we have made any strides forwards over the last 18 months, in terms of the level of quality in our squad. Numbers are up, but will that be enough to see us progress?
From what I have read here previously both King & Mahon have clauses making them highest earners so they would have wages to match any new incommers. The odd grand here or there suddenly turns into the odd 3 grand here or there.
That certainly was the case, although I am not so sure about going forward as I have heard rumours to the contrary.
Surely Gavin can't still insist on being the (joint) highest earner? A clause like that has to have a season by season review.
Since we can only wait and see if this is true I won't read too much into it as of yet. However, if it is true I will be most disappointed.
Strange as Aidy has already said that he hasn't finished and that there will be a few more faces arriving. If his current targets want to much then there are plenty of other fish out there to catch, we just move on to someone within our wage structure.
thats typical their just playing us off against each other  Someone buy them a hoover to keep them occupied :]]
I err on the side of The ivam's integrity if i had to choose one of the birdys -he's a decnt honest non bullshyte sort of human.
Personally I think we have a large enough squad ATM,its going to be hard keeping everyone happy. We have some long term injuries as well that will be like new signings when they return. Their is no need to panic at all,and also some say that the club has no ambition, well look what happened under ****** when we showed far to much ambition,we dont want to go down that road again.
Surely it's not really a case of not having the money rather than simply the players we want not wanting to come? Don't forget breaking the wage structure could potentially have a significant impact on the non-financial side of things as well.
The issue here is quality not quantity. Apart from Mcanuff, who is a good buy, we have not added any quality. We have far too big a squad to keep every one happy and we need to release or send out on loan another two or three players at least. I hope that we will be strong enough to challenge this season but are we any better then when we were promoted? The wage structure is a self-set mechanism and unless we get realistic about this we will remain where we are and not able to keep or attract the better player. I am not suggesting we go back to the bald Italian's ways but we do have to be more flexible. That said I l prefer the Championship to the Prem
I don't listen to birdies... I reckon H will be in, we will flog 4 or 5 inneffective players and have a very happy little season.
I cannot believe that Aidy will make the same mistake as he did last season. That being not bringing in some quality players before the start of the season, and then desperately trying to strengthen in January. He must try to bring quality in now!!! Even if he has to break the wage structure to do it, or we might as well resign ourselves to "Yo Yoing" yet again at the very best, that is assuming that we will be good enough to gain promotion.
Bet he doesn't want to upset King though who 'has to be the highest paid' according to his contract so people say?
i think its all about quality i would be happy with one more top notch buy lets be honest we dont need more than that and the signing should be at left back in my opinion which then leaves the vague possibilty that hh will sign but if not look at the squad we have its more than strong enough
