Jermain Defoe is heading home from England's Euro 2012 base in Krakow following the death of his father but is planning to re-join the squad.

The Three Lions arrived in Poland on Wednesday ahead of this summer's European Championship.

Defoe formed part of their 23-man travelling party but will be heading home following the passing of his father.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent was believed to have been placed on standby, but the Football Association expects Defoe to return to Roy Hodgson's plans.

"England striker Jermain Defoe has returned home to England this morning following the passing of his father overnight," read a statement released on the FA's official website.

"Jermain will re-join the England Euro squad in due course. There will be no replacement player called in.

"We would ask all media to respect Jermain and his family's privacy at this difficult time."

RIP.

Sad news ofcourse..only lost his brother I think not so long ago.

Puts everything regarding the Ferdinand row in prespective.

Sorry, but does it? Why does a death always 'put everything in perspective'? What perspective?

I still feel exactly how I did this morning regarding the Ferdinand row. I still feel exactly how I did this morning regarding Englands chances at the Euros.

Of course my condolences go out to Jermain Defoe and his family, and the fact he's coming back to play is a testiment to his bravery and strength in the face of this situation.

But it doesn't change the England National Football Team and won't put a thing in perspective. Just ask the national papers...

The national papers quite brilliantly put the 'Rio row' into perspective by talking about that yesterday and today the location of the team hotel, the coach driver's ability to take corners and a traditional trumpeter who plays his tune on the hour everyhour in Krakow.

I do agree with you about death or disaster and the use of the word perspective.

No..I suppsoe your right.

It was just that the row seems to be a bit petty.

Ferdinand just needs to accept he wasn't picked and that's it.

True, but I can understand on a personal level that he is right to be a bit angry regarding the situation.

However, what really annoys me is the press who keep going on and on and on about it. Hodgson is the manager and he has picked his team. End of story.

It wasn't meant as a go at you for using it by the way. It's just the general use of the phrase. Sorry if it came across a bit sharp!
