Martin Kelly,oh please. Our squad is now made up of shoddy Liverpool players!!
Why not Micah Richards?
Apparently John Terry has a slight injury,if he pulls out will it be Carragher who replaces him?
Why not Micah Richards?
Because he refused to go on standby.

Well thats fair enough and more fool him,but surely we must have someone more capable than Martin Kelly.
Kieran Gibbs,Michael Dawson,Ryan Shawcross??

Martin Kelly isn't a bad player, can play at full back at centre back, where as Gibbs can only play left back, Dawson injured and Shawcross a little hit and miss.

With no international experience , and if he can play centre half and right back , its likely that he isnt really good enough to play either for the national side

Im probably being a bit harsh on the lad but i've really got a problem with all the Liverpool players that are being called up,they've not exactly set the prem on fire recently and there must surely be better options elsewhere?
I hope the likes of Downing,Henderson and now Kelly prove me wrong but im not that confident.

Kelly is very unlikely to play, Terry, Lescott, Jagielka, Jones all ahead of him.
Downing I agree with and Henderson wouldn't be there if Carrick cared enough to want to be in the squad, turned down a place as he wasn't guaranteed 1st choice.

Another average player. There are so many English players who are fit, yet not in the side, behind all these p*ss poor Liverpool players!

Firstly that's a big shame for Cahill, but he will get another chance. Martin Kelly wont get a look in, just the same as Butland. You may as well take a 21 man squad. I think we have enough cover, but let's be honest, are we really expecting too much from this tournament?

I honestly think we have as good a chance of winning this as Chelsea had of winning the Champions League after being 3-1 down at Napoli and look what happened there.

I would actually fancy our chances against them, but then it would most likely be Holland in the semi's and Spain in the final.
If we come 2nd, which is more likely, then we will most likely face Spain in the quarters, Holland in the semi's and Germany in the final. I know the Chelsea analogy, but even with the luck they had I cannot see us beating the likes of Spain, Holland and Germany back to back. One fluky win maybe, but not three.

Check out my euro tips thread,Italy will not get out of the group and i'm willing to put money on that!!
Spain have a few big players out through injury and Germany and Holland can be inconsistent.
I reckon we may have a surprise winner of this, and I don't mean England.

Big loss, he looked very assured with Terry next to him - not just in that 20 minutes he played yesterday but throughout the season. Lescott will partner Terry which all considering doesn't look a bad partnership. It's worrying when Phil Jones and Phil Jagielka are our second choice centre back pairing.
Martens = Mega Tw@T.

With the Cahill injury, it's interesting Hodgson has overlooked Ferdinand. Rio is clearly better than Martin Kelly, and I think him saying he was not picked for footballing reasons has been found out.
I'm not a big fan of Ferdinand, but he has every right to be angry by this. I think David Mirfin would be ahead of him right now. He is suffering because of JT, pure and simple.
Someone should have absolutely clattered that Meertens for that yesterday, what a **** to do that in a friendly before a major tournament you haven't even qualified for.

Yeh,get sent off and get a three game ban. Then get replaced in the squad by Jamie Carragher or Sammy Lee :dismay:

But if it was Glen Johnson we could have replaced him with Richards or Milner with anyone else.

I honestly think Spain would struggle against us especially without David Villa. Athough they will have probably 80% of the ball, they lack a real goal scorer. It has to be one of the worst Italy sides in a while and I don't think they will get out of their group. Holland look dangerous though :O

We have as much chance of not getting out of the group as we do of reaching the semis.
I really don't think we are a good team. The only chance of progress is if Hodson organises us so that we can nick the odd 1-0 - ugly football at its best. We are just hopeless at ball retention.
I am laying England big time on Betfair.

As I see it, calling up a right-back has allowed Jones to be used as centre-back cover, rather than out of position as right-back cover, with Kelly now behind Johnson.
Richards, Walker and Smalling out, I don't see anyone else who could have come in to play right-back. Not as horrific a decision as some seem to be making out, mostly injury enforced I think.

Surely Micah Richards would step up to the plate if he was asked, so why hasn't he been?
Surely Micah Richards would step up to the plate if he was asked, so why hasn't he been?
Why should he get another chance to represent his country at a major tournament that most players would give their right arm to be even put on the standby list for after throwing his toys out of the pram and rejecting the opportunity first time round?
Like Carrick he shouldn't even be considered for the foreseeable. I would rather see hungry youngsters like Martin Kelly, who even cut his holiday in New York short to join up with the squad, than sulks like Richards and Carrick with egos that have led them to think that they should be automatically be in the England squad despite their painstakingly clear limitations as footballers.

Very true although it doesn't say much when a young Liverpool full back has to be called up for a central defender..
Apart Ferdinand who cannot be trusted himself to be fit I cannot think of too many top quality english centre backs!

I think this is an interesting development for England. Firstly - Rio Ferdinand is out because he's a canuting canut. Also because he won't play with Terry and Hodgson has decided to go for team spirit rather than individual ability.
As for him picking Martin Kelly - he wasn'tt picked for this tournament but to get experience for future finals. Roy is investing in the future of English football.
As for Richards and Carrick - no doubt they would have been picked had they not excluded themselves - but if someone feels they are too big to go on a backup list - they can fork off as far as I'm concerned.
Finals like these are all about team spirit. Roy knows that and is focusing more on that than on individual ability. And I think he's right to do so.
Also he is making you hard to beat. You won't play flowing Barcelona-like football - but you will compete well I believe. Now the last thing which will inevitably ruin your chances is your media's thirst for dirt. If your media got behind the team rather than try to find dirt on players all the time - I think you could do well.

Ferdinand has behaved terribly over this whole saga. The main reason he isn't in the squad is becuase of the inevitable disruption down to his involvement in the Terry affair. He knows this, I know this and the whole fecking country knows it yet he is acting like a petulant arrogant terwat. This may be his last involvement with the England squad and he is not showering himself in glory. We will be better off without him.

I totally disagree. Ferdinand had every right to expect to go. The most decorated English centre-half over the past decade, a player who has won five Premier Leagues and one Champions League. 81 caps. His experience rejected by Hodgson. And why? Football reasons? You're having a laugh. It all comes back to one man: John Terry. Terry should have been the one left at home, not Ferdinand. Look at all the disruption he has caused. The Wayne Bridge affair. His behaviour at the last World Cup. Cappello quits, throwing England's planning for Euro 2012 into chaos and who is at the centre of it all again? Yes, dear old JT. Hodgson has made a huge blunder in taking him and leaving Rio at home..do you think Redknapp would have made the same mistake?
Re Michah Richards..he had refused to go on standby only because Stuart Pearce rang him, not Hodgson, and he took that as an insult when the manager called everyone else.

Both JT and RF are canuts - one cheats with women the other cheats with drugs. It comes down to the fact that JT is the better player and since England cannot afford not to have either - JT got a reprieve.

On what are you basing it that JT is the better player? His performance at Anfield last month was universally decried as being terrible. And he was a liability to Chelsea in the Champs League semi final second leg.

:sign15: Spot on JB, i find it pretty f**king disgusting that Carrick and Richards have refused to even be on stand by, playing for your country at a major championships should be a massive honour and on of the high points of your career yet alot of English players seem to have forgotten how much it should mean to pull on the shirt.
