I have to say, I only see us play live twice every four months or so, but that means I can probably see improvement more sharply than those who see the matches ever week. Mariappa has improved massively from what I saw against WBA. He was confident on the ball and pretty creative in comparison to what he used to do, good passing, got forward alot and got into good positions where he could have a couple of shots! On top of which, disregarding his last minute lapse, had a good game defensively too. I was genuinely impressed, he looked a very accomplished player.
He seems to have come on leaps and bounds since the beginning of the season.

Are you taking the pi$$? An alright centre back but an awfull right back and one of the 2 reasons along with DeMerit in defence for why we are in this position.

Agreed. I think he's been good in general this season, and has matured with age. He'll never play higher than the Championship though, as he switches off too often.
He plays ten times better at centre back than he does at right back.

Problem is, at least every other game he ends up making at least one mistake which more often than not costs us the match.

you can blame demerit! blame all 11 players, rather than 1 or 2!

He is a better CB than RB, but he is not the terrible player a lot of you have been accusing him of being!!!
A lot of Watford fans always have a "boo boy" and for many he is the current choice!!!
Jordan Stewart and Gavin Mahon have been previous victims of this syndrome, and as in Mariappas case it is and was not deserved IMO!!!

Seems to have turned the burns around quite quickly which i didnt expect, didnt really understand the boo's as to change position half way through a season is difficult. Also with a player is short on confidence on our pitch mistakes can be made to look a lot worse than they are. When doyley miss places a pass it looks ok cause it goes inside and can be a good ball, through ball or even he has cleverley in front to bring it down, whereas with marrippa if he misplaces it it goes straight out of play

Marriappa is shyte. Would be an ok, at best, player for a league 1 side.

He looks quite good for a lot of the time, but as others have said, loses concentration and has costs us a lot of goals.
Malky obviously rates him, but I think he's one of the main reasons we're in trouble.

I'm not sure if Malky rates him or not. Think it's more the case of there's no one else. Hodson and Bennett are young and inexperienced, and he doesn't want to expose them to much. Happened with O'Toole and possibly Jenkins.

Malky has played him in every game, and earlier in the season gave him the captain's armband when Jay wasn't available, even though he has shown no particular leadership qualities.

No, you're right. The current bunch are all beyond reproach. It's the pitch, the dodgy refs and the EU who are to blame for our current plight.

Yup, and he was shyte as captain too. The quicker he leaves/we get someone else, the better.

I usually agree with you so if this is sarcasm then forget what im about to write.
How anyone questions his effort is beyond me he puts in far more effort than some, he always plays with courage and determination. On saturday he was very good, one example being in the first half where he put his body on the line against dorrans when the ball was crossed in which was showed on the bbc highlights. He had a great game against middlesborough and wba definately helping us to the points.
Thats one example that shows bravery and determination which people seem to question?? People saying about he doesnt care he's leaving in the summer or he's got his mind too much on the world cup, i nearly find laughable its not like you know the bloke or talk to him or are you mind readers?? Because his performances to me doesnt show a lack of determination or a lack of putting his body on the line.
Rant over.

I know the bloke. I played for Northwood Town. He's a nice guy.

He always reminds me of Jerel Ifil, apparently now at Aberdeen.

Are you kidding? We did well with Mariappa as captain. Far better than we ever do with Demerit as captain.
Funny how our rubbish players are always quality captains. I remember the Premiership season when we got 2 wins out of 2 with Jordan Stewart as captain.

It isn't down to rubbish players as captains, it's down to the other 10 players on the pitch. Mariappa needs to go.
