Just got an email about it. All the details about it including release date are being announced later today on their website! They have said it will be out in time for Christmas!

They announced it on their forum a couple of days ago, info will be out after 6pm. They always say it's out before xmas, expect a late October release like it usually is.

In my opinion there's a fair few things in FM that have long been needing a major overhaul, particularly the way you interact with the media, other managers and players etc. because those sort of features have the potential to make the game a lot more interesting but are far, far too limited at the moment.

I'd agree with that.

Will be make or break for me with FM. 07 was epic, 08 was little a sideways shuffle and a totally gameplaying disappointment. If 09 is crap I'll not go back.

looking at the videos looks good 3d match engine more interaction with the media with stuff like press conferences and the assistant manager being much more useful with more feedback

Totally agree with you UEA, this one is make or break for me too. I've been loyal going all the way back to Championship Manager 2, I have purchased everyone. However if FM09 leaves me feeling the same as FM08, I think it's literally game over.

I miss the days that you were forced into starting with Dover or Halifax.

3d match engine in FM09 eh? Well they've been talking about doing that when the technology is right for years, and finally it's here this will be an interesting development. It has come so far since the mid-90's when you just had a bar of text and Clive Tyldesley commentating!

I like the look of the press conference feature sounds like good fun, especially the way you can build a working relationship with journalists.

Y&P

But that makes the press conferences that you have when having a bog break obsolete.

Very bold move by SIGames to include a 3d match engine. I'll reserve complete judgement until the demo is out but I reckon it looks pretty good.

Well it looks intriguing. They've obviously pushed the boat out a bit and taken a gamble. I'll certainly d/l the demo when it comes out in the middle of next month and how it performs will decide whether I pay up for the full version.

Interesting to see Chelsea's chief scout uses the player data base on FM to look at players.

Looks quite good actually.

Chelsea's EX-Chief Scout. And to be honest, I'm not surprised.

there was one website - and they actually used fm to predict outcomes such as wether england should play a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, they were quite deluded about the factor of randomness in the game

Agree 07 was the best though i wonder how much of an impact the real Watford had on my liking of the game...personally i tend to get totally addicted then stop for no reason, then suddenly get the urge to play it again.

Edit: cheers for the videos!

I doubt mine will be good enough now...got my pc at the time of fm05 (so around 4 years old now). It was higher end at the time but i like to play with more than 1 league (especially since they got rid of the huge database). I know it wont cope with that so just hope it meets the minimum.

Hard drive is a good size but it's the ram which might be a bit low

I'm tempted to start a new 97/98 game (Just for the sake of nostalgia)

Oh dear...it's true that memories are best left as that!! It was quite difficult to play - took me even longer to find players as those i could afford i'd forgotten ever existed and the attributes are less detailed than the new games. I did (amongst my signings) get Wes Brown (why i don't know) and David Thompson on loan, but despite a good start - winning first 4 games Ronny and GNW soon stopped scoring and i stopped winning. Wayne Andrews and Jason Lee (don't get me started on Dai Thomas!) were rubbish and after about 2hrs i truly appreciated just how far the game has developed. True some haven't lived up to expectations generated by the game that preceded them, but all have developments which at least allow the proceeding game to be even better (e.g even though 08 wasn't great hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes for 09!)

I bought FM once and didn't like it. It does increase your player knowledge tenfold though. You can pick random names of players from Gillingham and Wolves' reserves from out of thin air.

Does it not bore you after a couple of hours? I still have 05 on the shelf, dusty and virtually untouched.

Improves your general football knowledge to be honest, this comes in INCREDIBLY handy when playing games on the itbox such as 'Itbox Soccer' and Bully's Football Quiz.
