I believe that getting the main players used to the new way of playing under competitive situations is more important than using the Carling Cup to blood youngsters.
Therefore, I think Aidy should make just three changes for this match:
Loach for Poom
Robinson for McAnuff
Hoskins for Priskin ( by all accounts Priskin's exclusion is enforced anyway).
What do you think?

As I read it on t'web Aidy is doing just what you suggest except it's Lionel who'll take part - either as replacement for Smith or Macca.

I don't think so, and I hope not.
A good run in either cup competitions would help cash flow as well as bond top players in the new system. Thankfully Aidy seems to have intimated he will play a first string. Apart from the development of the first team, we cannot afford to risk losing so early from a financial point of view.

Or on the flip side it gives more experience to our FRINGE players that could/will be called upon at some point this season with injuries and suspensions.
I would hate to think that Smith would play in a pretty meaningless game and pick up an injury, which would then rule him out of league matches. Best to give protection to our current first 11...our squad is too thin to afford injuries to our better players.

totally agree. The squad is to thin and key players, Smith, Eustace, Bromby, DeMerit, Poom, McNuff, Harley, Sadler - 8 players with no real competition for their place at the moment, won't be risked.

Aidy will field a near full strength side according to the Wobby (http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/3584216._I_might_play_the_same_team_/) though Priskin is set to miss out due to a head injury according to teamtalk (http://www.teamtalk.com/football/preview/0,16374,1807_3965024,00.html).
From these two articles the team seems to be:
________________Loach
Doyley____Bromby______Demerit____Sadler
_________Eustace_____Williamson
Ainsworth_______Smith________Harley
______________Hoskins

I think Noddy is an integral part of the new system and must play to keep the continuity going - as full a strength side as possible.

I'm with you on that one Lurpak - i would perhaps have Noddy on the right and see how the young lad does behind hoskins - if they click lional may just be the speed merchant we need. So far his wfc career hasn't shown him to be a great crosser of the ball.

I'd go with:
---------------- Loach ----------------
- Mariappa - Bromby - DeMerit - Harley -
Ainsworth - Williams* - Francis - McAnuff
---------- Hoskins - Robinson -----------
*If fit.

That's not a bad shout - only I think Smith needing to get used to the role more speaks against it. Maybe they could interchange - that would be interesting.

If he was a doubt for last saturday then he probably won't be risked before Charlton

I was under the impression it was for the league as well, but at Palarse it was just the 5. Might just be cup games it is for?

With Francis not match fit it would be stupid to leave Eustace out.

Good, wouldn't want to play with 5/6 players

I've heard he's playing a pretty strong team apart from perhaps one or two changes. Seems logical to me, would give the players as much game-time as possible and a good chance to get the home campaign off to a good start.
