I used to be well into NHL, can't remember which year it was but Anaheim (my team) and New Jersey Devils were in the Stanley Cup Final, 2003 i think it might have been.

But since i left for Uni and lost the use of Channel 5, the terrestrial channel that shows NHL, i've lost touch with the game. Still spend a bit of time looking through the website etc and watching highlights on the tube, but it's not the same as watching the games live.

As with the Football, i'm certainly going to try and get some Hockey viewing in when i'm over in America, assuming we stay long enough for the season to start.

Since you are a fan of the Ducks, i have a friend who does business with a season ticket holder...occasionally, he kicks some tickets free. If the timing is right, I'll ask for you.

Feast your eyes on this:
Yours truly with said friend 'on the glass'...

Probably can't tell, but I am wearing a Detroit Pistons shirt for the Red Wings/Ducks semifinal last year. Ducks won in a very exciting high scoring game, and went on to win the championship. To tell the truth, I hate all LA teams save the Galaxy. I'm an ass like that.

More documentary proof:

I like hockey, though I am not a huge fan...but being right on the glass is focking AMAAAAZZZING.

Ducks Down Kings in Shootout

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Mathieu Schneider and Teemu Selanne scored for the Anaheim Ducks during a shootout and the defending Stanley Cup champions beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 Wednesday night to clinch a playoff berth.

This is a good old fashioned LA derby game...

Fitz, your fast becoming my 'fixer' for this planned trip to the States. Used to go and watch some Hockey over here, but the standard was fairly shocking, much slower and far less intensity than the NHL. Hopefully this part of the land will soon be able to recieve digital signal and i'll be able to get back into weekly, late night viewing.

A shame this thread never got anywhere.

This season in the NHL there are a record 3 danish players on show.

NY Islanders' Frans Nielsen
Phoenix Coyotes' Mikkel Bødker (a rookie who scored his first goal last night as the Coyotes went to 2-0-0)
Vancouver Canucks' Jannick Hansen

I have been following the NHL since '97 when I was doing a placement for Uni in the Bay area. Hence my team is the Sharks. A regular season power and post season flop usually.

But this season I will be keeping tabs on the three danes mentioned above.

If you would drop in and post a bit, I will set up an 08-09 NHL thread, and I will read it. I don't devote much time to hockey but here in sports saturated USA, you can't miss it, so I'll participate in it, too.

I'm off to a game in a couple of weeks. And know a bit about the sport, so I may get hooked.

Watched myself a nice little season preview on Five the other night after a little midweek session on the Bulmers. Now i have Five again, i'll be a devoted viewer of the coverage on said channel each week.

My last season of consistent viewing was the year before the lock-out though and although i've tried to keep in touch, it's hard when you can't actually watch any games.
