Freedomland - Basically about some psycho woman who claims she had her car jacked with her kid in the back, but who really hid his body after he took an overdose, few race issues in it. Wasn't bad at all. Samuel LJ played his part well. Worth a watch 7/10.

Transformers - Decent, some ****ing stunning graphics and visuals in it but does get a bit tedious after a while. Pretty brainless plot, which relies upon the graphics etc to gloss over it. It is a kids film though after all so I wasn't expecting anything else. 8/10ish.

Got Requiem For A Dream ready to watch but am not in the mood atm, anyone else seen it? Heard it was pretty powerful.

Feel free to contribute. :)

I was disappointed by requiem for a dream, I was expecting a bit more of a deeper message underneath the plot but alas, there wasn't one. Still was a good watch showing the horrors of drugs but nothing spectacular. Anal buggery scene is a bonus

Yes, but now got on DVD after transferring from VHS to my DVDR.

Don't know why I bothered really, as I have the full Tarrantino DVD box set, but I suppose there's nothing wrong with keeping a back up just in case.

Quite a confusing film until you see Kill Bill 2, then everything fits into place, a bit like Pulp Fiction whereafter you've watched it a few times you've figured out what order it should be in.

Watched an oldie recently - called "the Razor's Edge". Starring Bill Murray it's a dark drama about a man who - through the horrors of WW1 - changes his view on life.

It's a young Bill Murray in what I think is his first serious role. While Bill is not the world's greatest actor in that film he does a prettyu good job and the story is quite good. Left me surprised and thinking.

It is overhyped and one of those films that you would waste two hours of your life and never get that time back again if you watched it. But that is my opinion. I was hoping for something like 28 days later etc. Very disapointed, especially when you can predict the end by 20 minutes into the film.

By pure chance, you know just flicking through the channels for something to watch kind of thing, I have watched two excellent films over the last two nights on Sky!!!

Conspiracy Theory is much overlooked and underrated. One of Mel Gibson's best performances, quite believable as a nutter.

I picked up 'Saint and Soldiers' for a fiver in Smiths a while back and it is a brilliant 2nd World War film - if you see it get it.

Watched Blades of Glory last night. What a load of coque. It wasn't possible to work out where the jokes are, so well hidden were they beneath silly faces and hip thrusting. I love a stupid comedy as much as the next man, but BOG was shyte. Balls of Fury was poor too. It looked like it had been edited wrong. I'm sure there were scenes missing which might have helped explain what was going on. Similarly, there were parts of the film which I thought must have been put in simply to fill time whilst the cameras were still rolling. It is a terrible example of poor film making.

he's just a fat jim carreyI think that is an insult to both Ferrell and Carrey. Their comedic styles are very very different. Ferrell has a knack for taking something very american and overdoing it to the extreme. Anchorman is the best example of that - and I think Semi-Pro may turn out to be another one.

Carrey is basically slap stick stuff. Which to me means that when he's good he's fantastic but when it's not it really really sucks. But Carrey can actually act as well which - I'm pretty sure - Ferrell cant.

i would argue thats its nothing to do with their comedic styles but rather a reflection of the industry in their respective eras. if they were to remake Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber they'd stop at ferrel. you need only look as far as the last ferrel movie as evidence of that.

I see what you did there. It was a poke at my masculinity. Listen bub, I could ice skate and make it look tough. That's how manly I am.

On Will Ferrell, I loved Old School, but since then, my love for the big guy has dwindled considerably. Even Anchorman was a bit flat for me. The main joke of the movie could be got from the posters showing a man in 70s clothes with a moustache.

I think Ferrell is more like a modern day Chevy Chase than Carey. I watched Ace Ventura on holiday recently and it confirmed my position in the "Hate" camp of the Carey divide.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. A film in which he plays an obnoxious, stupid yet somewhat charming newscaster that overcomes the odds and reads the news to glory.

I bet Chase, Steve Martin and the like must have either been choked with envy or encouraged by Bill Murray's renaissance, in boring, oscar nominated claptrap.

For me Chase is emminently watchable and his films have more charm than the recent Ferrell efforts, but you could see the Vacation movies being remade with Will as Clarke W Griswald.

Will Ferrell is funny in his cameo in the first Austin Powers movie when he falls off the cliff. He also acts in Stranger than Fiction, and far better than I thought he could.

Jim Carrey is totally unbelievable as an actor. His little artificial world try to be serious movie sucked so much ass it's not even funny. He needs to get back to sticking asparagus up his nose, making faces or whatever he did that actually worked, like a guy who can't say no or a guy who can't tell the truth or just a sack of imitations.

Ferrell in Old School is rad.

On an earlier theme, I received my latest offering from www.lovefilm.com over the weekend. For those who don't know how it works - you pay a monthly fee and then you get unlimited rentals by post, which you select in advance. You pick a list of films you want to see and then when they are available, they send them to you one or two at a time.

This week, I received Tallodega Nights, which I'd clearly chosen before I'd seen the likes of Blades of Glory. This was the worst film I can remember seeing. Sacha Baron-Cohen was embarassing in it. The script was a disgrace and Ferrell has converted me once and for all, from a fan of his (prompted by Old School) to someone who loathes him deeply.

Saw "Burn After Reading" yesterday. Classic stuff from the Brothers Coen with decent performances as ever by Malkovich and McDormand. Best character was undoubtedly Brad Pitt though, very funny as an outrageously camp and hyper-active gym instructor.

Following their usual plot of "everyday nobody plunged into an unbelievable series of events, with lots of bodies along the way" this film is well worth an evening and £5 of your moolah.

£5 of your moolah.

Certainly won't be £5 for me, non-student living in London, lucky to get under a £10!

Haha.

Well i'm also a non-student, but i still have my student card and it gets a lot of use.

Either way, if you've liked any of the previous offerings from the Coen Brothers, you'll enjoy this one and it'll be a fine way to spend between £5-15, depending on where you live, student status etc.

No movie is worth $30.
Few are worth $10
I am a big fan of a $2.50 movie though.

Great film, just for the one immortal line: "That's IT. I've had it with these motherf**king snakes, on this motherf**king plane!".

I agree, 'Burn After Reading' is an absolute pile of steaming sh*t. Crap storyline, not funny in the slightest, and it thinks it's far more clever than it really is, a huge waste of 2 hours of my life.

On the other hand, I saw 'We Own The Night' the other day which I thought was very good indeed.

Poor uneducated souls. All your criticisms are exactly how they set out to make the films, they do it on purpose, the whole concept of the films they make is that they are basically about nothing, if you think any different and expect something deeper, you're just naive.

I watched 'Blacula' and 'Scream Blacula Scream' last night.
He's a very chivalrous vampire and seems to have his life somewhat confused with that of Jesus'.

Agreed, although I was falling asleep at the beginning, and me bum was ridiculously numb by the end.
