I asked ChatGPT how Tom might get on next year:

Predicting the performance of a manager or a team in a sports season is always a bit uncertain, but I can offer some general thoughts on what might influence Tom Cleverley's tenure as Watford manager. Firstly, Cleverley's success might depend on his ability to transition from being a player to a manager. While he likely has a good understanding of the game from his playing days, managing a team requires a different skill set, including leadership, tactics, and man-management.

Additionally, Watford's performance will depend on several factors such as player recruitment, tactical decisions, team morale, injuries, and competition in the league. Cleverley's success will also depend on the support he receives from the club's ownership and management, as well as his coaching staff. It's also worth considering Cleverley's knowledge of the club and its culture, which could work in his favor. However, managing a team in a competitive league like the English Championship can be challenging, especially for a relatively inexperienced manager.

Ultimately, Cleverley's success as Watford manager will depend on how well he adapts to the role, his ability to motivate and organize his players, and the resources and support available to him. Only time will tell how he will fare in his new role.

Bit screwed with the bit in bold......

Hornets Head Coach Tom Cleverley was comfortable with the decision not to recruit a forward in the summer transfer window, believing that Vakoun Bayo and Mileta Rajovic possess the goalscoring ability to improve Watford's poor record in front of goal from the 23-24 season.

    Yes.

Already seen people say let’s get him and spend money on them .

Feel people might be a tad disappointed if they are expecting some clever purchasing .

Problem is most of us wouldn't trust Gino with our piggy banks right now let alone a transfer budget of x-amount of funds to (hopefully) improve the squad. We've wasted millions on paying off contracts and keeping on aging players. If you add all that up, and sprinkle in some decent saving and financing, we could of assembled a pretty decent squad by now. We are literally at the pound shop end of the transfer window and will be until we get a cash injection, or we fully pay off all our external debt which is no doubt growing rather than shrinking*.

*no basis for this, my own ideals.

'Two loan players', interesting, considering we have 3! Perhaps one of the three is basically as good as signed up again for next season, since neither Lewis and Dennis came from Udinese and are on a fair whack, I would guess we are keeping Martins? He was also the only one of the three who played against Boro

Does it actually say this anywhere or is it just made up ? ( I’m hoping the latter !)

Or maybe he just didn't count Martins as he's still a player owned by the Pozzos/ inside the Pozzo stable? Clutching at straws a bit here as I'm hoping we can upgrade him next season.

I don't think Tom Cleverley nor the EFL give one flying **** about 'Pozzo FC', but the fact that he hasn't been named among the 3 loanees suggests he's back next season, a deal would certainly be the easiest to do

Martins didn't pull up any trees when he first came here, and to be fair, he was coming fresh from South America, but after a good start, what on earth is his excuse for stinking the joint out in 2024? He's never been the hardest worker, but in recent performances it looks like he'd never seen a football before

Didn't he have a family bereavement early in the season? It possibly could have affected him mentally.

Sunderland I think it was? Slowed down a bit after that, but still came up with some goals and assists, but from January onwards, nothing

Not meaning to sound aggressive or accusatory, genuine question: do you have any idea where you heard this? Because I have no memory of anything like that around him at all, and am wondering if I somehow missed it (slash or if it's a little cultural memory attached to JP rattling around in the ether, for one option).

Seems Val did say this on Twitter.

Guess it would affect anyone for a while but still he didn't really do much after a bright start.

I'm pretty certain they already do this. Listen to Ten Hag or Pep rattle on post game and you can almost mouth what they are going to say before they say it. With the exception of Gracia, who had a favourite statement of "In this moment..." which I found endearing.

Ah wow, well well found then, thanks, and credit to @domthehornet's memory!

Would agree with you, though - seemed to get worse throughout the season on the back of an initially sharp drop. Would be very convenient for all if that was all that was to blame.

Watford observer understands Mr Pozzo made a £150m war chest available, but Cleverly was satisfied with his £750,000 of purchases and 600% agent fees.

    Another scenario
We know we agreed the fee form Lewis at the start of the season, as part of a loan to buy deal.

Therefore the fee was agreed and already in our budget

IF the deal was triggered once he had played a number of games, that signing could already be done

It could therefore be Martin's and Dennis that are our two loans.

If that's true then we still have a good player performing below his standard in Martins and a striker who has had more enough time to get going with a blunt edge. Not the best encouragement going forward this Summer. But both could have a decent pre season (if they both stay) and who knows might come good. However, like @Hogg-DEENEY!!! pointed out above, wages will be key. We know Dennis took a huge cut to join us on loan, but will his personal ambition to stay with us for another season outweigh his price tag? On top of that, Forest still legally own him.

Think we would have heard if there were such a clause (I seem to remember something about the deal being made permanent if we won promotion or something?)

No idea if it's true, it's just a scenario

On the point of Martin's, the reason he performs under par is simply because his a truly atrocious player.
