What came first the Maltese chicken or the egg?

 

Malta is infamous for trapping wild birds on migration with cruel glue traps and shooting 1000s of the globally threatened turtle doves and warblers, turning a blind eye to international laws.
I'm very happy to eat a chickens egg. Or in fact a chicken. Hope that helps ?

 

Sadly very true and not something I would ever condone, despite my ties to the island.

The situation has improved somewhat thanks to stricter policing, and the vast majority of Maltese people abhor it each time birds are shot illegally (the island does have some lovely bird sanctuaries). The problem is there will always be those who think they are above the law, and the other problem is the hunting fraternity has a big voice at election time in an island with a relatively small voting population and a two party system.

I thought it was just Cyprus that did this. Ortolan bunting an especially popular delicacy. Even my old dad disapproved of the glue stick traps which is straight out of the Twits.

Very attractive little bird.
First one I ever saw was in Cyprus...in a restaurant....fortunately I was, it was drinking from a puddle outside on the dirt track that runs along the coast from Paphos to the Akamas National Forest Park.
